Pantomime in Glasgow

At the Kelvingrove Art Galleries in Glasgow, is a display of Pantomime, staged by the Scottish Music Hall and Variety Theatre Society, reports John Bogie. There is a 45 minute documentary on a loop, named Standing Room Only (1983), being shown courtesy of STV. The late Jimmy Logan talks about Stan Laurel and AE Pickard and connections with theatre. John says, "Then he shows the footage of the Boys on stage in Edinburgh, and amazing footage both outside and inside the Panopticon, plus a view of Argyle Street from the Panopticon window! A first for me." The exhibition runs until 1st February.

New website

Jack Roth tells us that the New York Founding Tent has a new website at www.sonsofthedesertnyc.com.

My mothers' name was Alice

"My mothers' name was Alice" was Hardy's chat-up line when he and Laurel (Alf and Bert) met two young ladies in Our Relations. It made me think that girls' names come in and go out of fashion. The once popular Sharon and Tracey seem now to have lost favour. Names from one hundred years ago have come back &endash; Victoria, Emily and Charlotte for example. We have current pop singers named Amy and Lily.

So perhaps the Ollie of today would be saying, "My grandmothers' name was Alice."

Annual

The Laughing Gravy Annual never disappoints. With reports on many of the Birmingham tent's activities interwoven with comments and fun bits, John and Mandy and all their team have given us another issue to liven up our winter.

Who was Columbus?

Despite the result of the second leg of the quiz against the Early to Bed Tent in Octember, in which the Brats Tent suffered a defeat, the team unbelievably bounced back to win the first leg at the ETB meeting in Nowonder and in doing so winning the event overall. Congratulations go to John Jnr (Team Captain), Duncan, Heppy and Michelle.
