Netherlands restaurant
back in business
The Laurel and Hardy Restaurant in Zandvoort,
the Netherlands, which was mostly destroyed by fire
in early August, has reopened. The restaurant was
filled with some wonderful Laurel and Hardy
collectibles and memorabilia that were destroyed.
Thanks to the generosity of many Sons who donated
memorabilia, the restaurant again displays some
great collectibles for patrons to enjoy. I was told
the restaurant is more beautiful than ever.
I had the pleasure, along with a number of other
Sons, of visiting the restaurant in July 2008. Ron,
the owner and also an Ollie lookalike, was such a
gracious host -a true Son of the Desert. We all
wish Ron well.

Cincinnati Tent
foundered
I am very pleased to
announce that the very first meeting of the new
Cincinnati Tent (to be called The Chimp Tent) of
the Sons of the Desert was successfully held on 6th
December. There were twenty persons in attendance
and they were treated to a cartoon, the Little
Rascals' Beginner's Luck and Laurel and
Hardy in Big Business (with live keyboard
accompaniment), Hog Wild and Dirty
Work. An added bonus was the screening of the
"106 Clip" by Jimmy Wiley, which was featured at
the 2004 International Convention in
Columbus.
Cincinnati is now on the
map and we look forward to continuing contributions
to the memory of Stan and Ollie.

Dwain
recovers
Dwain Smith was in
hospital for a few days towards the end of
November, for open-heart surgery. Dwain says,
"Well, I made it! All went well. Four days after
the surgery I was discharged from Winthrop
Hospital."
We are glad to hear that
you are OK, Dwain.

Christmas
Brats
The Brats Tent
had a super Christmas meeting on 8th
December. John Burton says there was a
good turnout and "the bring a prize, win a
prize raffle worked well
again!"

Bonnie Scotland Tent at
Christmas
Janice Hawton (above) was,
as usual, in charge of proceedings when the Bonnie
Scotland Tent held its Christmas meeting in Paisley
on 5th December. There was a quiz and a raffle,
films included Big Business and The
Fixer-Uppers and the buffet went down
well.
