The Live Ghost Tent's Christmas Party

All Sons of the Desert and their friends and families are invited to a Jolly Laurel and Hardy Christmas Party on Saturday 6th December. Don't let the current gloom and doom spoil your Christmas. Eat, drink and be merry whilst celebrating our love for Laurel and Hardy.

Come along to a sumptuous evening of fun, eating and making merry and it will cost you only £3.00, which will include your food and a raffle ticket. It will be a Grand Christmas Raffle, with lots of wonderful prizes. No tent meeting would be complete without Laurel and Hardy on the big screen and we will also have our other usual events, but with a lot extra, including a Laurel and Hardy quiz.

Our party will be held at our usual place, Calthorpe Arms, 252 Grays Inn Road, London, WC1X 8JR.

Sea-Sons greetings

Roger Robinson says, "The Saps at Sea Tent's Christmas meetings are always extra special and we plan to keep up that tradition with seasonal films, clips, some seasonal nibbles, surprises and a special Yuletide raffle. Our Christmas meeting is extended to 10.00pm." Be at the Railway Hotel, Clifftown Road, Southend-on-Sea on Sunday 14th December.

The Saps' special meeting follows Roger presenting Laurel and Hardy at Christmas for the Southend Pier Museum Members' Christmas meeting, with little Alexander Rowland performing live.

Bonnie Noel

The Bonnie Scotland Tent will be at the Stow Brae Bar, Canal Street, Paisley for its Christmas meeting on Friday 5th December, with films, drinks and a buffet. The fun starts at 7.30pm and the cost is £5.00. All are welcome.

Culver City revisited

Piet Schreuders consulted historical records to design a digital version of Culver City as it looked in the 1920s in Laurel and Hardy films. The virtual tour is presented in The Shortest Main Street in the World on the Internet at http://www.boingboing.net/2008/11/10/recreation-of-laurel.html.

There is a large (28.4MB) pdf file from 1999 on Piet's work at http://www.donbrockway.com/mainstreet.htm.

European Convention 2009

Preparations for the 9th European Convention in Ghent, Belgium are well underway. The planning committee is working very hard to make it a convention that no one will ever forget.

In times of financial crises it is very important that people look after their money and think twice before spending it. The Me and My Pal Tent offers every Son a chance to save money. If you register and pay for the convention before 15th January, you save ¤35 and you get a free convention T-shirt, worth ¤10. You make a profit of ¤45.

The National Geographic Traveler magazine has declared the historic centre of Ghent the third most authentic historic destination in the world. For the fifth year in a row the magazine questioned a panel of travel experts, historians, geographers, etc. This time the questions were about historic top destinations that are managed in a durable and lasting way and have a vivid local community. Ghent is the only Belgian city on the list of 109 historically rich destinations.
