New
book On 1st December I
saw a new version of part of the Laurel
and Hardy "Bible" was on offer on the
Helpmates' website. The book has been put
together by Russell Babidge. Just as I was
deciding whether or not it was worth the
high price, the book disappeared from the
Helpmates' site. No matter, it was by now
on Amazon. I ordered it. But then Amazon
had difficulty in supplying it within the
few days' delivery time promised. No
matter, I was now able to buy it on eBay,
direct from Russell Babidge himself. I
wasted no time in buying it and sending
payment by PayPal. But the book has still
not been posted and today (19th December)
Russell Babidge tells us that the book has
been recalled due to binding defects. The
book is now available, on order, through
Russell Babidge's own website. Should I
order a third copy? Or am I chasing
rainbows? Willie
McIntyre Stan on the
radio On Boxing Night at 6pm, my
documentary I produced for Bishop FM Community
Radio about Stan Laurel will be played over the
Internet on www.bishopfm.com. Steven
Gittins Radio 4 I have just heard a
trailer on Radio 4 for a show to be broadcast today
(19.12.08.) about writing music to comedies. The
trailer used the following as an example - "Stan
and Olllie selling Christmas trees in July, driving
along. You can use this type of music. .
." This may be the only
reference to the Boys in the whole show (It could
happen!) - but may be worth a listen if you get the
chance. You can replay programmes via the Internet
- just in case you recieve this message too
late! John
Burton Merry
Christmas Gary Winstanley and
everyone at the Dirty Work Tent wish you a Merry
Christmas. Gary says, "Please take a minute of your
time to watch a quick word from our
mascot..." Also well worth a look is
this... Special
commission I have a special
offer at the moment just for Laurel and
Hardy fans. I am selling any Laurel and
Hardy commission, including mount for just
£100. This won't last forever, so if
you are keen to have a hand drawn sketch
of the Boys feel free to drop me an
e-mail. Many Thanks. Chickens in Ulverston The Chickens Come Home Tent's joint Christmas bash and 10th anniversary all made for a fantastic day trip on 6th December. We met up at Lancaster station in the morning and took the train across the bay and up to a very festive looking Ulverston. There was plenty of festive cheer (consumed) and the Convention Committee met up to discuss our plans for the upcoming convention. The entertainment and activities are coming together nicely and we all agreed that it's going to be a cracker! We also discussed a few extra bits and pieces that we are keeping under our cakes but should be the icing on the hat. Mike Duckles Lookalikes Dennis (Stan) Moriarty and Dale (Ollie) Walter were on TV Channel 6 WJBF (Augusta Georgia). They are pictured below with the news anchor woman Mary Morrison and WX reporter Matt Monroe on the noon news programme.
![]() Dennis's youngest daughter Dottie (43) was his travelling companion for eleven days back in September and October for the 20th Oliver Hardy Festival in Harlem, Georgia. It was the lookalikes' 15th year in a row as Parade Grand Marshals. Dennis says, "We have already been invited back for 2009."
