Bowler Dessert's sixth DVD recalls some fairly recent events and adds some truly vintage home movie material, once again testifying that the Sons of the Desert know how to enjoy themselves across a wide spectrum of activities. UK Convention 2007 (12 minutes) The splendid UK Convention, hosted by the Midnight Patrol Tent in and around Stoke, had a great mixed bag of Sons' talent on display during the Sons Entertain interlude. Here we are charmed (in order of appearance) by Roger Robinson and Paul Allen, Mark Harris, Brian Waite, Jean Darling and Joe Hearson, accompanied by Stephen Hearson. Our next DVD will feature other events which were enjoyed during this convention. European Convention 2005 (13 minutes) Much was packed into the European Convention in Hamburg and Itzehoe and highlights are preserved in this section of the DVD. We go sightseeing, visit a gigantic model railway, enjoy a river cruise and are transported by elderly road vehicles. We witness the traditional communal singing, followed by a barrel organ welcoming us to an old cinema, within which we enjoy the Boys on the screen, author Norbert Aping talking about his passion for Laurel and Hardy, and the challenge of a quiz. Later the challenge of the Pee Wee Contest adds to the fun, then the finale keeps us smiling through the prize giving, the Dance of the Nurses and general high spirits. Sons Casebook 1980s (6 minutes) Bill Cubin is interviewed in his museum then we witness some monkey business at the 1986 UK Convention in Blackpool, with Stan and Ollie lookalikes Ron Dunn and Peter Wood. Bill Cubin next visits Glasgow and we see a few locations which have Stan Laurel connections. Babes in Netherlands (3 minutes) Two Perfect Days was the name of the event staged by Bram Reijnhoudt in and around Amsterdam. This was captured on super 8 film by Dave Walker and some of it is excerpted here. Much of the activity is on a canal boat trip. Count how many of the Sons are active today.
