Harry Ingle's son Alan sent
us a photograph of his dad's gravestone. The photo
at the top left corner of the gravestone shows
Harry wearing his World War 2 medals, which reminds
us that Harry's ship Ariadne was one of six mine
layers (1943-61). The photo on the right of the
gravestone shows Harry doffing his fez, with all
his badges on it. The bottom lines on the headstone
read, "Much loved & known as Happy Harry by
Laurel and Hardy Sons everywhere."
Sons of the Desert donated
£600 in memory of Harry and this met part of
the cost of Harry's gravestone. Harry is buried on
top of Cemetery Hill in old Ulverston, overlooking
Morecambe Bay.
Following Harry's death in
June, Alan donated many of Harry's framed photos of
Laurel and Hardy to the Stan Laurel Inn in
Ulverston. Harry would be proud of his headstone
and that others can share his photos of Stan and
Ollie when they visit Stan's hometown.
