Happily married

Longtime Son Dave Fullbrook and Laura were married in South Africa on 27th October. Dave says, "The whole trip was fabulous and we could never have asked for more. Thanks to everyone for their kindness and generosity and all the cards and good wishes. We have been overwhelmed and are so lucky to have you all as our friends."

Steve in the news

Bury Times newspaper (15.11.07.) had a lengthy article about Steve Bartley and his new tent. Click here.

Live Ghost Tent's Christmas meeting

You are invited to another evening of fun and frolics when The Live Ghost Tent holds another fine meeting on Saturday, 1st December,  5:30pm until 11:00 p.m. at The Calthorpe Arms, 252 Grays Inn Road, London WC1X 8JR when they will wish each other:

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Del Kempster says, "Our Christmas meetings are always popular so you are advised to come as early as you can so that you do not miss anything. We will be putting together a full programme of Laurel and Hardy fun and the raffle prizes will definitely have a yuletide feel about them. Entrance is free for club members and £3:00 each for guests. Any questions on this? Phone our membership secretary Eric Elliott (01932 828928) or email him at eileen1533@aol.com."

The Live Ghost Tent meetings take place on the first Saturday of every even month so the next one after this will be 2nd February 2008.

Stan and Olliday

Details of AJ Marriot's Stan & Olliday are now out. It is a Three Night Break - May Bank Holiday (Friday till Monday 23-26 May, 2008.) Click here for details.

Charity Fund

It was reported that Nancy Wardell sent cheques to various charities, one being for the Williams Syndrome, about which she says,  "Sorry, I have forgotten the requester." Well, I am the requester.

My wife, Josephine, and I have a friend whose ten-year-old  daughter Sophie Myles suffers from Williams Syndrome. So I wrote to Nancy last year, and she phoned me earlier this year, for more details, I also sent her photos of Sophie, but I realise that Nancy has not been well and has probably forgotten.

Ronnie Hazlehurst

Nick Rich confirms that Ronnie Hazlehurst did play the music for Dad's Army. Nick has a video of the Dad's Army 30th birthday event in 1998 and says, "I went to it and Jimmy Perry said Ronnie played the music."

Nick also says, "Larry Grayson's Generation Game is on Challenge TV at 3am and 4am in the morning. I use the Sky Plus box to record it. Why? Because you can hear Ronnie's Laurel and Hardy music. The Trail of the Lonesome Pine was played on 8th November."

Typewriter search

Back in 1998, someone came to a Sons of the Desert tent meeting in Los Angeles with what he said was Stan's actual typewriter. He was offering the typewriter to the highest bidder. If anyone knows where it ended up, please contact us at info@lettersfrom stan.com. We'd love to talk to you about it!

Cracker

The Laurel and Hardy Forum continues to share photos which are new to our eyes. "Vonbork" (from New York) posted the above cracker

Photo call

Irv Hyatt of the Blotto Tent in New Jersey is searching for a photograph. He writes, "It is a shot of Laurel and Hardy in football uniforms Nebraska vs Minnesota. The one I am looking for has Hardy holding a football in his one hand, and carrying Stan's head (crying) under his arm. Any photos from this series would be appreciated, however. These photos were taken in late 1940. It's driving me crazy. I thought I saw it in one of the books on the Boys, but searched to no avail."

Please e-mail Irv at sandman300@aol.com if you can help.

Stan and can

A very unusual photo (above) of Stan, which has obviously been "doctored", was on sale on eBay.

Shorts

Yours magazine (06.11.07.) had a full-page article on Laurel and Hardy by Roy Hudd.

Contrary to our earlier report, the kilts and scripts on auction from AJ Marriot did not sell recently. No one bid.

On 12th December at 2.30pm the Will Hay film Oh Mr Porter and two Laurel and Hardy shorts will be shown on the same bill at the Rio cinema in Hackney.

The updated website for the Berth Marks Tent of Harlem, Georgia, at http://www.berthmarks.org has many new photos, items for sale, articles, etc.

Chicken for Christmas

We had a great time on our last "Chicken Run" up to Ulverston . . . and we are heading back up there for our annual Christmas visit to the Laurel and Hardy Museum on 15th December. We'll be in the Rose and Crown from around midday if any other Sons would like to meet up (and what will you have, Stanley?).

I've been living down in Leicester for a while now, but still get up to Lancaster as often as possible. Fellow Chicken Dave Wilkinson and myself are going over to Leicester's De Montfort Hall to see Paul Merton on his Silent Clowns tour. Judging by the programme on BBC2, it should be a cracker!
