The Saps at Sea Tent is mighty proud to have
loyal members Ray and Rita Dempsey on board since
we launched ten years ago. Ray and Rita are indeed
Busybodies (in the nicest sense) running their
shop, Another Nice Mess, in Elm Park and with Ray
manning a Saps memorabilia stall at our meetings
and Rita our industrious Membership Secretary. They
never stop working.
Add to all this, Rita has been busy for two
years organising Ray's 50th Birthday Party, which
was on Saturday 16th February 2008. The gathering
had a distinctive Laurel and Hardy flavour to it,
with lookalikes Bud and Steve from North Wales,
Dave Dearle and You're Darn Tootin' Jazz Band,
Alexander the Great (the Saps' little Ollie
lookalike) and Mad Paul Allen doing the disco.
Ray is also a huge Norman Wisdom fan and the
photos on the walls showed the many occasions when
Ray and Rita have met Norman. To top it all. . .
the cakes. Not one, but four superb cakes with
Laurel and Hardy, Norman Wisdom, Tottenham Hotspur
(I told you this Ray feller was a good chap) and
England all commemorated in icing and
decorations.
It was a super night. Congratulations and
thanks, Ray and Rita.
