The Show Must Go On |

On 4th October I woke up to some shocking news. St Barnabas Church on the High Street in Erdington was on fire. The 150-year-old church had caught fire during the night and over eighty firefighters were trying to put out the fire. It just so happened that our tent meeting was to take place that evening. We meet in Church Road just down from St Barnabas. Would it effect our meeting? We arrived on the evening to find that the entrance to Church Road was closed. Even worse was the fact that both sides of the road were closed off. We parked in a side street and made our way to the Bromford Club. A young policewoman told us only church members and Laurel and Hardy fans were allowed through! Yes, she had heard about us and wished us luck for the evening meeting. Although some people failed to make it, we still had a good turnout of around sixty people. We resisted the temptation to show Helpmates, but Another Fine Mess had everyone in fits of laughter. The show certainly went on and I would like to thank all those who made the effort to attend. John Ullah
