Elsewhere we reported a bit about the Stan
Laurel and Art Friedman interview, which is on the
Laurel and Hardy Forum. We wrote, "At first
Art rambles and asks some very stupid questions.
Stan's first answers are short and he sounds a bit
annoyed by the inane opening questions, but things
warm up and Stan takes over, talking at length
about his early career."
Lois Laurel has been in touch and says that this
wasn't really the case. Art was a professor
with UCLA and had this show, which was successful
for years. The interview was arranged months
beforehand and Stan was especially looking forward
to it as all his interviews prior to this were
written ones. When Babe died a few days
before, Art offered to reschedule the interview but
Stan wouldn't hear of it, saying, "You have to do
the show." Stan lived in Malibu at the time and
Lois says he really enjoyed the interview and it
was good to hear her dad's infectious
laughter. She says that when he laughed so did
others."
Thanks, Lois for filling us in with this. It is
good to have your comments.
