Stan's First Night

Actor Alex Norton wrote Stan's First Night, a play about Stan Laurel which appeared on Scottish Television some years ago. He would like to refilm the play and writes (on the Laurel and Hardy Forum), "If enough fans were interested in putting up a small amount each (say for example £50), it might just be possible to fund a half-hour, independent film based on my previous script. With a half-hour film of this nature it's unlikely to make anyone's fortune. However, all the backers would receive a personalised DVD and an on-screen producer's credit, plus the opportunity to appear as an extra in the Panopticon scenes. If the film did make money, then each backer would receive a previously agreed share of the profits. I'm certain I could guarantee a screening of the film on STV. I would then take it round all the major film festivals to see if it garnered any awards. My personal feeling is that it could be in a class of its own. I have the script, I have the director and I have the necessary contacts in all aspects of production to see this proposed film through to a polished and professional completion."

Grand Sheik Willie McIntyre suggests, "If Alex would care to come along to our next Sons meeting at the Panopticon (7.00pm on Wednesday 5th March) he will be made very welcome and could perhaps talk briefly to the audience about his project. That might be his best way forward in getting the Sons and Laurel and Hardy buffs to support his suggestions."
