Buckden Towers, formely Buckden Palace, is a unique architectural heritage with roots in the 11th century and a glorious history with sad moments.

From the days of William The Conquerer to the accession of Queen Victoria, excepting a few short gaps, it was a residence of 60 successive Bishops of Lincoln. Being on the Great North Road, about midway between Lincoln and London, it was a convenient staging post. Many Bishops who ere often also statesmen on royal business, found it a useful base from which to control the vast pre-Reformation Diocese stretching fron the Humber to the Thames.
