Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658), was born, lived and trained troops for the Civil War in this area. The Falcon Inn at Huntingdons Market Square was one of his headquarters, see his statue at St. Ives Market Square and visit the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon.

Samuel Pepys  (1633-1703)  lived close to Huntingdon and was educated in the same school as Cromwell. Queen Katherine of Aragon was sent to Buckden Towers near Huntingdon before being imprisoned at Kimbolton Castle.  William Cowper, the poet was also a resident of Huntingdon from 1765 to 1767.
