This may not appear very striking, it is my first attempt at a deep sky picture, M27 Dumbell Nebula My Nikon Coolpix 4500 was the camera at 8 seconds shutter speed. The image has been processed in Paint Shop Pro which I am still learning to use. I suspect it could be made even better. |

The Orion Nebula, M42. One of the brightest and most beautiful of the nebulae in the sky. My first attempt at photographing M42 is shown left. An exposure of about 90 to 120 seconds at 400 ISO using the Nikon Coolpix 4500. I had the guidescope on the telescope, using a guiding cross-hair eyepiece with an illuminator (the latter my wife bought for me). I kept a star in the cross-hairs using the hand crontroller for the 'scope which moved the RA and Dec motors. It was a particularly cold night, and so the heated insoles for my boots (a brilliant invention) helped keep me warm. I find feet get cold very quickly, so these are a boon. I admit that this is slightly out of focus, but I am pleased with it for my first attempt. I was about to try another method of focussing, but the camera battery ran out! Murphy strikes again. |
