The first four pictures were taken through my Tasco 125mm Catadioptric Newtonian telescope, using eyepiece projection into a Canon EOS 650 camera. A home-made filter using Baader Solar Film was used. This picture was taken at prime focus. Several sunspots can be seen. |

This picture was taken the next day at approximately the same time of day as the previous one. This time a 2x converter was attached to the camera. The positions of the sunspots have moved to the right showing that the Sun really does rotate! |

Partial eclipse from Beachy Head 31st May 2003, soon after sunrise timed at 03:51 UT. A large amount of low cloud was present. Note the reflection on the sea. This image taken with a Nikon Coolpix 4500, hand-held. | ||

The next two pictures were taken at prime focus through my Celestron C8 using a Canon EOS 650 camera. Shutter was between 1/30 and 1/60 second onto 200 ISO film. Times imprinted are in BST, or UT+1. The morning mist acted as a natural filter and had to be taken quickly. | ||

27th October 2003; Groups of large sunspots were being reported which were larger than the planet Jupiter. This image was x50 magnification with a yellow filter on the eyepiece. Celestron C8 and a Nikon Coolpix 4500 at 100 ISO and 1/30 second shutter. Several shots were taken, focussing is a particular problem which I have yet to master properly, but this turned out to be spot-on. Unsharp Mask has been used in Paint Shop Pro 7 on this image. Special Note. This picture was edited out of the December 2003 Sky At Night programme in favour of a submission by Douglas Arnold. | ||
