DANZATAK
KINGS OF WESSEX
DANZATAK, KINGS OF WESSEX YOUTH DANCE COMPANY is a community
dance group closely partnered with the Kings of Wessex Community
School. It echoes the values and aims of the school. The head teacher &
governors kindly provide space and active support. It is in effect the
school dance company and most of the young dancers attend the school
itself.

The Company was started in September 1998 to help to promote
Contemporary dance in the Sedgemoor District, and within the School
itself. It has received grants from the Arts Council of England, from the
British Council and from Sedgemoor District Council. It also receives
generous support and encouragement from the chairman and staff of the
Kings of Wessex Leisure Centre. The Artistic Director & Management
Committee of Danzatak are all unpaid volunteers. The only paid people are
the highly qualified teachers & choreographers that we use.

Many of the members are relative beginners. After a year or two of
steady attendance and tuition most should be competent performers.
The young dancers will learn elements of the main seriouis forms of
dance, but always the emphasis will be on dance as an art form. They will
learn to dance, to create dance, and to understand dance. Above all they
will gain confidence, but we hope they will also have lots of fun and make
good friends. New members are normally expected to stay in the
Company for at least a year or two.

We expect that Danzatak will add significantly to the arts scene in the
school itself and in the surrounding community. We hope that it will
represent a centre of excellence in dance as art, and that it will become a
permanent part of the local and County arts scene.
