SPRING LOADED; TACCHI MORRIS ARTS CENTRE
28 February 2006
Danzatak perfomed two major dances at this prestigious youth dance festival. They
were choreographed by Sharon Crawford, Hannah Motuel, and the dancers themselves.
The show was presented by Take Art and featured some of the best youth dance in the
county. While not actually on-stage, the dancers were able to watch the performances
by other groups. It was a very professional and enjoyable production which we hope will
become a regular feature of our dancing year.

EXCHANGE WITH DANCERS FROM SALDUS LATVIA
February / July 2005
During February 2005, 23 members of Danzatak visited the small town of Saldus in Latvia for a
week of dance and fun. The trip was made possible by a generous grant from the EU Youth Travel
Programme. It was a magic week which none of us will ever forget. The best part was that it
snowed almost every day!

The hospitality of our Latvian hosts will never be forgotten by us, but we did have the opportunity to
repay their kindness to us when they came to us in the following July.

The young dancers of Danzatak Youth Dance Company shared a day of dance with a group of
young traditional dancers from the ex-soviet republic of Latvia. The day was sponsored by the
British Council, and the idea was that young people from England and from Latvia should
become friends.
The day started with a tour of the school conducted by members of Danzatak. During the rest of
the morning the two groups created a dance to the live accompaniment of the Kings of Wessex
Drumming Group led by Ben Badoo who is an experienced African drummer and dancer. Oscar
(Paul Anderson) of "Casualty" fame choreographed a very lively dance on the group of nearly
forty young dancers. By the end of the morning all the dancers were thoroughly exhausted, but
had created an exciting dance for public performance later that evening.
After a school lunch, the Latvians explored Cheddar Gorge, and returned later in the afternoon
for a buffet meal at the school and a public evening performance. The dance show consisted of
a performance by the Kings of Wessex Drumming Group, The Latvian Dance Group, the home-
based Danzatak Youth Dance Co, and Kazdanz Youth Dance Co from Highbridge/Burnham-on-
Sea.
