The King Alfred Concert Band was founded in 1981 under the directorship of Martyn Owen, who was then Head of Music at KAS. Since that time, many students have passed through the Band and have gone on to pursue their studies or join the work world.

We are now a community Band, based in the school with school children gaining their musicianship along with mature members in the community.
If you were a former Band member, send us an e-mail with a few lines about yourself .

Many tributes have been expressed for Nathan by his friends and those who knew him.  We, as Band members would like to add our own special tribute by remembering him through a few of the many pictures taken of him over the four years he was with us as our drummer.

Nathan had many friends in the Band and his love of fun, laughter and friendship was evident to all.

He enjoyed playing in the many concerts over the years' and every concert presented its own challenges.  Nathan went to Fritzlar, Germany in 2006  and I know he considered this tour very special.

The Band will be giving a summer concert on July 20th in his memory with all proceeds being given to the Nathan Edwards Sports Academy Fund.

 WIND BAND FESTIVAL AT CLEVEDON

Some of of our Band members attended a Wind Band Festival at Clevedon  which was held on a weekend last October.  The event took place in a very large rambling Victorian Hotel, an ideal venue for such an event.

All the musicians were divided into two separate bands, the Junior and the Senior. At the end of the weekend both groups performed their separate concerts. Considering the short amount of time for rehearsals, most considered the concerts were a remarkable acheivement. Marion remarked "It was an enjoyable experience to be playing alongside band members from a variety of wind bands from around the country, some coming from as far away as Scotland. I am sure that everyone who was there will have benefitted from an entertaining and enjoyable weekend".

Mike, who also enjoyed the musical weekend, said " It was challenging, great fun and a wonderful opportunity to play with musicians from other bands".
