The King Alfred Concert Band was founded in 1981 under the directorship of Martyn Owen, who was then Head of Music at KAS. Since that time, many students have passed through the Band and have gone on to pursue their studies or join the work world.

We are now a community Band, based in the school with school children gaining their musicianship along with mature members in the community.

JULY 28- 31ST 2008

The Band stayed at a most impressive hotel on the cliff tops looking out across the English Channel.

28th July  Day 1 the Band travelled to the South Coast to catch the ferry to the Isle of Wigt.

As the weather was very good, some of the Band members chose to visit the beach in
the afternoon.
In the evening after dinner all went to see the world famous "Waltzing Waters" a most
elaborate water, light and music production.

28th July

In the morning there was a trip to Carisbrooke Castle, the Isle of Wigt's royal castle . The members enjoyed a march
across the battlements and dressing up in armour at the museum.

After a thoroughly enjoyable time at the Castle the Band travelled to Sandown and Sandham Gardens for an afternoon performance.

30th July

On the 3rd morning of our stay we drove to Black Gang Chine . which consists of 40 acres of spectacular cliff-top gardens.  Here we all found a magical mix of fantasy, legend and heritage. The Pirate Ship, Smugglers Cave, The Wild West Town and the Land of the dinosaurs .

In the evening after a fantastic dinner at the Hotel, the coach took us to Shanklin for our evening performance at Rylstone Gardens.

31st July
After breakfast we headed for Cowes and another Band performance .

Later in the day we all enjoyed the famous Osborne House, the Island residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert . Some enjoyed a horse and cart ride around the grounds and the beautiful gardens surrounding the House.
