YOUTH DANCE COMPANY
|
|
KAZDANZ YOUTH DANCE COMPANY is affiliated to the King Alfred
School Community School through a special Partnership Agreement. It was started nineteen years ago as an extension of the School's Dance Department. The company reflects the aims and standards of the School and has a close and friendly relationship with it. Most of our young dancers attend or have attended the School itself. It is in effect the School dance company.
Throughout its twenty years Kazdanz has received grants
and support from South West Arts, Sedgemoor District Council, Lions International, from the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England and from the European Union. Its Artistic Director and Management Committee are all unpaid volunteers.
Many of the girls who join Kazdanz have had previous
dance or gym experience. Others have had no previous training. After a year or two of steady attendance and tuition most are competent enough to be part of the performance team. All that is required is commitment, a love of music, an ability to get on with others, and a good sense of humour. But perhaps also equally important is parental support. We encourage parents to become involved in the organisation of the group, and to assist at performances.
The girls learn elements of the main serious forms of dance,
but always the emphasis is on dance as an art form. They learn to dance, to create dance, and to appreciate dance. Above all they gain confidence in themselves, and above all have lots of fun and make good friends. |
