| Bogs of Mayne Airfield |
| Starting out from Elgin on the B9010, the first airfield encountered is RAF Elgin (Bogs of Mayne). This was a satellite of RAF Lossiemouth from 1940 1946. Used mainly by the Wellingtons of 20 OTU (Operational Training Unit) it also had detachments of Hurricanes and Blenheims in 1940 and finally ended up as a scrap yard for surplus aircraft. A plinth with a 20 OTU badge is situated at the centre of the former airfield. Originally erected in 1943, it is now kept in excellent condition by RAF Lossiemouth. The airfield is now
a gravel pit but various buildings are still in use by local farmers |
