Near the centre of Forres, off Tolbooth Street, a brass wall plaque on the side of a house at Fulton Road commemorates a tragedy in November 1940 when a 19 OTU Whitley bomber operating from RAF Kinloss crashed on Fern Villas.

Although no one of the ground was injured all six crew in the Whitley were killed.
