The Royal Burgh of Forres Coat of Arms |
|
![]() |
The Royal Burgh crest shows St. Laurence, in a meadow with springing palms. St Laurence is dressed as a deacon holding a bible in his right hand and leaning on a bed of iron bars with his left hand. These bars depect the iron bed which he was roasted to death on. A crescent moon is depected on his right hand side and a sun fashioned like a six-pointed star on his left. At the foot of the Coat of Arms are the words “Jehovah Tu Mihi Deus Quid Deest,” - “0 Eternal, Thou Art My God, What Lacketh.” It is not known exactly where these words are taken from. It is not known that they were ever used by St. Laurence himself. The most likely explanation is that they are an adaptation from Deuteronomy II., 7, “Tecum dominus Dens tuus et nihil tibi defuit” - " The Lord thy God hath been with me, thou hast lacked nothing.” |
