Instruments

Instrumentalists who are accustomed to the long rests involved in much orchestral music find the intensive, almost continuous, playing involved in West Gallery music challenging and refreshing. Our band, led by Jim Gowers (bassoon), has its own practice once a month, when they play country dance tunes, which they also perform at interval time in concerts.

We aspire to a group which can alternate strings and woodwind in four parts: at present, our full band strength is two violins, cello, two oboes, bassoon and bass concertina. Players have to be prepared to play whichever part is required on a particular occasion. We are still hoping to find a flute or two and perhaps a clarinet, as well as a viola or another cello, but, if you are keen, contact us no matter what your instrument!
