Hinderwell

Hinderwell is a bustling rural village close to the picturesque fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay, and just seven miles from the harbour town of Whitby.  The village offers local shops, a post office, a chemist, a church and two pubs – all on the main High Street.

This is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside; from the dramatic cliffs and smugglers coves of the coast to the deep secluded dales of the North York Moors National Park. Walking, cycling, gliding, riding and fishing are all well catered for in the area, making the area a perfect location for a relaxing break.

The short walk to Port Mulgrave (just ¾ mile) will reward you with stunning views of the coastline (part of the Cleveland Way Coastal Walk).  From Port Mulgrave you can take a peaceful cliff top walk to Staithes to the north or to Runswick Bay to the south. Or you can follow one of the many public footpaths from Hinderwell inland through farm tracks and woods.

The two friendly village pubs (The Badger Hounds and the Brown Cow) are both within about 2 minutes walk of the cottage and both do bar meals (the Badger Hounds also has a restaurant area).  Pub food is also available within walking distance at the Ship Inn (Port Mulgrave), the Runswick Bay and Royal hotels (Runswick Bay), the Fox and Hounds (Dalehouse), the Captain Cook Inn (Staithes).  The Cliffemount Hotel (Runswick Bay), the Ellerby Hotel (Ellerby) and the Endeavour (Staithes) all good quality restaurant food and are both within a mile or two of Hinderwell.
