Knobbed Sickle

B/w knobbed sickle

Colour sickle

Knobbed Sickle, length 6" (also available in gold)

Such sickles were in use across NW Europe during the BA. Hafting suggestion as illustrated, possibly with longer handles. My own experiments with harvesting Emmer wheat have shown this design to be very good at cutting the handful of stalks off near ground level rather than separating the heads from the stalks.

My own feeling is that sickles such as this, continuing to be used through later (iron) ages for ceremonial reasons, led to the myth of the Golden Druidic Sickle (gold is a soft metal unable to hold a cutting edge). These sickle blades are cast in stone moulds, and are supplied unsharpened and unpolished. Design for the handle and fitting are supplied.

Knobbed sickles cost £28.50 each + P&P
