League Rules

  1. The game shall be played in a friendly (but competitive) manner. All players shall act in a good sportsmanship like way, both on and off the table.
  2. The league table distributed every 2/3 weeks must be on public display for all to see.
  3. The rules of play for all matches are the ‘World 8 ball’ rules, the format of play is 6 Singles & 3 doubles.
  4. Matches start at 8.30pm, if a team is not ready to start playing by 8.45pm they lose the first frame, if they are not ready by 9.00pm they lose the match.
  5. Home captain fills in score sheet first, in the order of play of his/her choice, and then the away captain does likewise. If the match is being played at a neutral venue then each captain writes his/her team (in playing order) on separate pieces of paper, and then presents them together to fill in the score sheet, in the same order. Players must play in the order as written on score sheet.
  6. The away team break off the 1st frame then the break is alternated between home and away teams.
  7. The home team referees the 1st frame then the refereeing is done alternatively between home and away teams. Please note the no talking between shots rule, for doubles games, the referee may disqualify persistent offenders. The referee’s decision is final.
  8. The food break must be between the singles & doubles games.
  9. No teams are permitted to play non-registered players. No transfers of players from one team to another will be permitted during the season.
  10. Doubles partners in the K.O. must be registered on the same team.
  11. K.O. may be restricted to 64 entries for singles & 32 entries (64 players) for doubles.
  12. A maximum of 12 players per team. A Team may sign on new players up until 31st December, if a team has 12 players and wish to sign up another player, then they must first sign off one of the original 12 players.
  13. A minimum of four players must turn up to make a team, if less than four then the match is cancelled. If a team has only 4 players then they automatically lose two singles & one double game by walkover (No opposition.) The order of play must be 1 to 4, when 4 players and 1 to 5, when 5 players; e.g. if a team has only 4 players the order of play can NOT be 1,2,3,x,5. If a player is not available to play when it is his/her turn they lose the frame.
  14. Fines: Cancelling a game = £5. Lost score sheet = £4. Late form = £3. Late score sheet = £2. Late phoning in score = £1.
  15. A maximum of 4 cancellations throughout the season, then expulsion from league. Cancellation = opposing team win 9-0. Fines will also be imposed for incomplete score sheets or any breaking of the rules. Any fines incurred through out the season will automatically be deducted from the £30 deposit; you can not be fined above this value. If an away team cancels a game and gives less than 24 hours notice to their opponents, they are expected to pay £10 to the home team for food, this money will not be taken from the deposit and should be resolved between the 2 landlords.
  16. Pubs that do not attend the A.G.M. may be find £20. Pubs who do not make a contribution to the presentation night raffle may be fined £10.
  17. A team representative must attend captains meetings or the team will be fined £5
  18. Scores must be phoned in by Midnight the same night to Darren (phone number printed on score sheets), by the winning team. The score sheets must be handed in within 2 weeks of the match, by the winning team to The Pool League, The Social Club, 6 Church Street, Buntingford, Herts, SG9 9AS.
  19. Any complaints or appeals e.g. (hazardous weather conditions) must be put in writing and sent to The Pool League, The Social Club, 6 Church Street, Buntingford, Herts, SG9 9AS, within one week of the incident. The league’s decision is final.
  20. A team winning a league match will be awarded 2 points, if two teams have equal points then the team that has won the most frames will be the highest in the table.
  21. Matches must be played when and where stated in league fixtures.
  22. Please show respect for pool matches when football is on T.V.
