SAFETY ON THE WALKWAYS/PONTOONS Members are reminded that during periods of icy or rainy weather the walkways and pontoons can be extremely slippery. Please note the following:
DMH (13/1/07) Pontoon Safety must remain a high priority for all club members. Members must assume responsibility for the safety of their children, families, and invited guests when using the pontoon, especially when negotiating the walkway and gate areas. The Pontoons and Walkways are private and members of the public are not permitted unless accompanied. Children should not be allowed to play on the beach, near the water, or on club installations unless supervised. The foreshore is covered in a mixture of stone, sand, and mud, and soft mud is a real DANGER. Children could quickly get in to difficulties if not supervised. Care must be exercised when walking down the walkway or pontoons especially when the wooden decking is wet or icy. Where there is a handrail please use it. The visitors/Pilot Boat/Wessex Fishermen pontoon must not be obstructed by trailers, barrels, or sinkers etc.. Guard rails are fitted to ensure the safety of all disembarking from their craft. Electric Cables should be routed so as to avoid obstructing the walkway. Only use cables/plugs/appliances that are fit for purpose. All persons using the pontoons should wear lifejackets, all members on the river using tenders, dinghies MUST wear suitable Lifejackets. In the event of anyone falling in the water there are lifebelts on the pontoon and on most boats. In the event of a fire immediately summon the Fire Brigade, nearest telephone in the Stop Gap. In addition there are water taps and hoses on the pontoon.
