 SEA SAFETY

You will be aware that Burnham on Sea has excellent rescue services located here. When an emergency arises on the water we are very pleased to see the arrival of the RNLI, Burnham Area Rescue Hovercraft, or H M Coastguard  on the scene. These services are dedicated to saving lives. Each year at Burnham on Sea the emergency services are frequently called out to recover yachts, motorboats, and personal water craft. The reasons for these calls are wide and various.

The RNLI recognises that training in the prevention of accidents at sea is very important. RNLI Sea Safety Officers have been  appointed at most of the Lifeboat Stations around our coast, and more recently at Burnham on Sea. Chris Spencer, has been appointed as the Sea Safety Officer (S.S.O.) at Burnham on Sea. He and members of his team will be pleased to carry out a Free Safety Check on your boat, at a time convenient to you. This is an informal meeting, and it is not a matter of passing or failing, but more a matter of taking time to look at some of the Sea Safety issues affecting us when we put to sea.

If you have a yacht, fishing boat, motor cruiser, jet-ski, or other personal water craft the RNLI are willing to carry out a Free Check.

A handbook on Sea Safety The Complete Guide, with CD included, is available from the RNLI. This is a valuable resource. This sea safety book and other useful booklets are given to those participating in the Sea Safety Checks. Contact Chris Spencer, Nicholas Redding or David Humphrey to arrange a free safety check..
