The task of
building The Burtey Fen Collection
In 1997 Nicholas and Mark began to look for a site to build a new purpose-built
concert room to house the four manual concert pipe organ, and the three manual
Compton pipe organ, together with Mark's collection of memorabilia.
A site on Burtey Fen Lane in Pinchbeck was purchased, and building work began in
June 1998. By January 1999 the shell of the building was complete, and the task
of completing and fitting out the building began.
With the invaluable help of Chris Scotney and
Steven Gardner, Nick and Mark
completed the main concert room and organ chamber by May 1999. The Compton organ
was installed between April and August 1999, in preparation for the opening
concert in October 1999.
Work continued on the 60s coffee bar, toilets and foyer, and by the time of the
opening concert the whole building was complete apart from the upstairs lounge
bar.
During February 2000 work commenced on fitting out the upstairs lounge bar, and
by March 2000 the whole building was complete.
During 2001 and 2002 the concert pipe organ was installed, and is now in use for
recital work, and available for private practice.
During 2003 the ex Gaumont Exeter
Wurlitzer was installed.
The building now comprises of
*
Foyer and box office
*
Main hall and balcony - seating up to 200
* 60s coffee bar
* Lounge bar
* Toilet facilities including disabled toilet
