Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes![]()
Grand Lodge of England
Bury Heywood & District Provincial Grand Lodge
The Province: was formed in 1874 by the Lord Clyde and the Stanley Lodges, these Lodges unfortunately are no longer with us.
In 1897 the Province along with the Manchester and
Rochdale Provinces were suspended from the Order “this was when the Northern
and London Lodges split”, but when Grand Lodge moved to Birmingham in 1898 the
present Bury Heywood and District Province was formed and readmitted.
Over the years 57 Lodges were opened in the Province,
and in 1998 we celebrated 100 years of Buffaloism. Also the same year two of
our Lodges celebrated their centenary, namely the Mathew Fletcher Lodge No 394
and the Perseverance Lodge No 534 and in 2001 the Haslingden Lodge No 736
celebrated their centenary.
On the 1st January 2001
“Due to the unfortunate closure of the Rossendale Province” the King George V
lodge No 1457 once again entered our Province having left in 1911 to form the
Rossendale Province, we also lost the Forest Lodge in 1913 to the Rossendale
Province but this Lodge only lasted 3 years and closed in 1916. On the first of
January 2004 the Roy Waite Lodge No 10603 formally of the Rossendale Province
came under our control, “having first of all gone to the control of the Burnley
Province” on the closure of the Rossendale Province on 31st December
2000
At the end of 2001 we had eight
Lodges in the Province, but,, on the 31st December 2001 the
Radcliffe Lodge No 2633 unfortunately: had to close through shortage of
Brethren so now we had seven very active Lodges. With the entrance of the Roy
Waite Lodge that once again gave us 8 Lodges in the Province
