The event was held between 1 - 8 August 2009 at The Great Park, Windsor, Berkshire, England. I was invited to The Harrington Sub Camp on Sunday 2nd. The criteria was to demonstrate my skills, rather than, give tuition. I demonstrated turning the traditional way on a Foot powered lathe.
Shaving - using a draw knife and shaving horse.
Trimming - with a hand axe.
Cleaving - using a froe
Items made were chair leg and toilet pulls. I also talked about the procedure of bowl turning, with several of my bowls on display, for a visual reference. Away from the lathe, I also demonstrated axe carving and knife work, producing several spoons and a trencher. Unfortunately, I was only able to attend one of the days, but managed to give good tuition to several people who took part after the demonstrations, one actually producing a spoon. The emphasise was on using traditional methods and tools, safely.
Because time was short I was only able to make a short video at the event, click on the link WINGS 2009 VIDEO.
