Its good for me to be here this evening with you all, and I felt I should say no more
than a few words about our club, on its 60th birthday.
First suggested at the end of 1944, a few stalwarts, to who we should be eternally grateful,
met at Len Mill's house in January 1945, to form C&DMEC.
From those small beginnings, our club has become one of the best known and most envied in the country.
Our regular income over the years has enabled us to expand considerably

in all the directions we have wanted to go.

The 2 railway tracks have reached a zenith of development, and still we find ways to improve them.
Our current motive power and carriage stock just about keeps up with the demands put upon it
during the summer months.
Workshop facilities are constantly being altered to make it
user friendly and, to keep members and non-members aware of the latest news, the club
magazine and the internet website are kept as up to date as possible, using the latest technology.

Membership seems to level out at approx. 80, that's in number, not the average age,
and it is good to see younger people and the fairer sex, coming along to join us.
Without being too complacent, I am confident CDMEC will see its centenary; with that in mind,
special thanks to JB for organising this dinner, and if you anticipate seeing in the said centenary,
put your names down now for the celebrations in 2045.
