Dave Darton designed and built this unusual Locomotive
"Penny"

"Penny" is based on the DeWinton Vertical Boilered 0-4-0 Tank Engine.
Dave built this 7-1/4 gauge live steam engine over a 7 year period, to his own design.
Using a combination of castings, scratch built components and modified fittings.
The cylinders are Stuart No. 4 castings with 1-1/2" bore and 1-1/4" stroke.
Boiler is rolled copper 7" diameter with a lapped and riveted seam, silver soldered throughout.
The water tank has welded steel sides and brass top and bottom, capacity 14 pints,
which gives a run of approximately 1 mile.
Overall length 36". Max width over crank pins 15-3/4"
