subs Brendan, Callum, Ben, Elliot and Joe
A buoyant Calverton side go into today’s final full of confidence. Already crowned league division 1 champions, the lads didn’t show any nerves before the start and were keen to top off the season with another trophy. The game played at Burton Joyce began a few minutes late with confusion on the pitch allocations, finally the correct pitch is located and Calverton get the game under way. The lads immediately pour into Pelicans territory and Preston gets an early shot just off target. Then 6 minutes in Hakeem breaks down the right and threads in a lovely ball for Preston to strike, the Pelican keeper makes a fine save but the loose ball falls to Hakeem who plants it into the net to give Calverton the early lead. Pelican not offering much up field begin to get their passing game together and earn their first corner 3 minutes later, Harry clears that one away. At the other end David plays a ball through for Preston but the linesman flag goes up after some great build up play from Hakeem. 19 minutes played and Hakeem again with a good strike just wide of the upright. Calverton are getting most of the possession plus any time Pelican seize the initiative the lads close them so quickly and force most of the play in Pelicans half. No further goals and the half finishes 1-0 to Calverton.

Second half changes rotates the keepers with Brendan on for Ryan and Pelican start the second half kicking up a slight slope. Only two minutes of the half played and Brad gets a stunning headed goal after Preston whips one across the face of goal. 2-0. Calverton continue to pile on the pressure with Brad hitting the ball over the bar. 41 minutes on the clock and Mick brings off David for Ben to get involved in the action. 44 minutes and Hakeem earns a corner after Brendan’s huge kick down field sets him off towards goal. Hakeem is there to steer ball towards goal but the Pelican keeper collects. Calverton continue to push forward and Preston perched on the last man is deemed offside from Brads ball and then again from Ben’s a minute later. 10 minutes to go and Pelican’s urgency gets them a break but the shot is a poor one and Brendan easily saves.

Another change from Mick puts Elliot on and Harry off. Elliot immediately involved playing Hakeem through but the Pelican defence close him down. Then with 8 minutes left to play Calverton give Pelican an near impossible task to get back into the game by getting the killer third goal. A lovely header from Hakeem drops to Preston who gets through one on one with the keeper, and he slots it away. 3-0. More changes give every player a taste of Cup Final football with Callum replacing Luke and Joe on for Preston. Pelican just can’t find their way through and Calverton keep pouring on the pressure, Hakeem and Darrell coming close. Then Callum working from the left tests the keeper from distance with a lovely strike but the keeper does well to tip it round the post The final whistle is agonisingly close and Pelican earn a corner Brendan cant get to it and Elliot clears it from the line. The ref deems that the final play of the game and an elated Calverton step up to collect their second award this season. Well done lads a fantastic end to a fantastic season.

Thank you Pelican for your sporting congratulations and thanks also to Burton Joyce FC for the excellent pitch and facilities.

Man of the match awarded by the referee was Dane Wakefield.

Match report

Calverton’s second visit to the Tigers den, last time we met in the cup with Calverton coming out on top after extra time. The lads need to keep the points rolling in to be certain of topping out the League. West Bridgford are still hot on our heals although they have a busy week ahead of them.

Tigers get the game under way kicking off up a slight slope and earn two early throws. Harry busy at the back but Calverton pinned firmly into their own half for the first 10 minutes, with only one half chance falling to Darrell shot wide. 10 played and Brad and Luke link up well to get something going for the Colts earning a throw that’s put out for a corner. Danes corner falls short and Rainworth clear. Harry puts it back high towards goal and the keeper holds. This half is all Tigers but Raynor, Dane, Wilko and Harry are a proven force to get past. Harry working particularly well with some vital interceptions in the air and on the ground to prevent Rainworth’s progress, and Raynor breaking up the right to try and get things moving for the Colts. Half time and Rainworth probably edge it but some great work by the lads must leave the Tigers frustrated that they have nothing to show for it.

Changes for the re-start put Brendan on for Ryan and Luke off for Preston. Tigers continue the pressure earning a corner in 33 minutes, the corners dealt with but Rainworth are beginning to set up camp in our half. 40 minutes on the clock and Mick signals another double sub bringing in David for Callum and Ben for Elliot. Calverton still struggling to get the right ball through to the forwards hit another too long for Preston but in the 43rd Calvo’s throw finds Hakeem but the Tigers defence work well to deny progress. 46 Minutes and Tigers best chance of the game when the Calvo defence is caught with a long ball and Rainworth a through one on one. Brendan steps off his line. makes himself big and produces a fine save. Tigers again push a couple of minutes later and Brendan is forced to play some football outside his area to get the ball and player towards the corner flag. Tigers get the throw but Wilko brings it up field and shoots but the keeper holds. 53 minutes and still honours even but Darrell breaks and is brought down earning a free kick. The kick taken by Darrell is forced out for a corner which Darrell takes. Struck firmly to the far post Dane is there to slide it in and a vital goal 0-1. This signals a more up beat Colts with David’s strike bravely blocked and Wilko making a great interception and pass to set David on his way, nothing comes of it. 3 minutes remaining Mick makes another change with Hakeem off for Joe and shouted instructions of “one upfront and five at the back” signals that Calvo intend to defend the one goal advantage. Then with the whistle pressed to the ref’s lips Calverton seal the points when Brad plays a lovely ball through to Preston who rounds the defender and neatly finishes low past the keeper to finish the game 0-2.

Calverton come away with a vital three points and now need just a point from their last two games for the Division title. Well played lads and thanks Rainworth for three terrific games of football.

Match Report

Calverton’s first game with Dunkirk see’s the lads away from home again, but a win today would guarantee the Colts runner up spot in League Division One.

Subs Brendan, Callum, Ben

Calverton from the off press forward and earn a corner in the 3rd minute but it’s put into the side netting by Dane. A minute later and David is found with a good ball but his shot is wide. Calverton getting a lot of the ball finally open the scoring in the 14th minute when Hakeem slots it home from close in from Preston’s cross. Calvo earn a free kick a minute later, taken quickly the Dunkirk defence are caught off guard but the keeper spots the danger early and forces Calverton to shoot from wide and the ball is out for a goal kick. Calverton dominate the half but fail to capitalise with Hakeem, Darrell, Preston and Luke all shooting wide. Half time 0-1.

A change between the sticks for half time puts Brendan on for Ryan and the game gets under way. 35 played and Dunkirk getting more of the ball this half, clearly the wind is a factor and Calverton struggling to get out of their half. 40 and Dunkirk let go with their first real attempt at goal but the shot is straight to Brendan who holds it and punts the ball back up field. A throw in to Calvo puts Darrell into the box but his shot is wide. 49 played and a change is signalled with Ben on for David. 4 minutes of play left and Dunkirk let fly with a shot from wide right, Brendan makes a diving save tipping the ball away for a corner. Dunkirk swing the ball in but Calverton clear. Then on 58 Bradley makes a fantastic run from deep in his own half, going through Dunkirk’s midfield and defence, his shot is saved by the keepers feet it falls for Callum who shoots, the shot is blocked and Preston is there to bury it low into the centre of the net.

The final score 0-2. Thanks Dunkirk for a great game in difficult conditions.

Match Report

Subs Brendan, Callum, Joe, Elliot

Calverton started brightly with a Luke header just going wide after a couple of minutes. The lads were knocking the ball around well and a good move resulted in Preston firing just wide. With all the pressure Calverton needed a goal and after 20mins it came. A throw in by Wilko to Dane resulted in Dane passing to Brad who threaded a lovely ball through to David who finished well into the corner of the net. Straight from the restart Calvo win the ball and Preston forces a corner. Dane takes and Harry gets a good head on it to advance the score to 0-2. More good football resulted in Preston firing wide after good link-up play between Darrell and Brad. Right on half time a good block from Ryan prevented Kimberley from pulling a goal back.

0-2 at halftime but it could have so easily been five or six.

No changes for the start of the second half which begins like the first with Calverton immediately on the attack. 35 minutes played and Preston lobs one at Kimberley’s goal, the keeper drops and it creeps over the line. Fair play to the linesman for informing the ref it did indeed cross the line. Three minutes later and Harry gets his second, this time a Dane free kick from wide on the right and Harry gets up well above the Kimberley defence to nod home 0-4.
42 minutes signals the first change with Elliot on for David. then on 48mins another change puts Joe into the action for Hakeem. Two minutes later and a double sub gives everyone a game with Brendan replacing Ryan and Callum on for Wilko. More chances come Calverton’s way with everyone playing well. A special mention to Hakeem for his ceaseless running up front and Luke for having a great game on the left. Harry also gets a mention for 2 great goals from a right back, and well done all fifteen lads for good performance

Match Report

Subs Brendan, Callum, Ben, Joe, David
I did have a report written for this for this game but It’s not worth the read. Basford won 2-0 with some of the worst football antics I have ever seen. Basford were only intent on hacking down, pushing, pulling and thumping their opponents today and amazingly the referee looked the other way. With disturbing sideline comments from Basford management and outbursts on and off the pitch, this game is best left resigned to the past and over and done with.

Sunday 24th February 2008 (YEL Cup) - Rainworth Tigers 2 - 3 Calverton MW Colts

Goal Scorers Harry Bateman, Hakeem Jackson, Dane Wakefield

Match Report

Our first visit to Rainworth FC. Calverton last met the Tigers way back in September 2007 winning that encounter 4-0. Not much can be drawn from that result so early into the season, but current form leaves Rainworth sitting just below mid point after playing 11, winning 5 and losing 6. Calverton are looking to further their cup campaign after losing out in the quarter finals of the FA Shield.

Subs Ryan, Joe, Luke, Callum, Elliot

Calverton get the game started opting to kick up the slight slope. Rainworth threaten early but Harry reads it well and makes a good tackle, then Calvo apply some pressure back but the Tigers back four remain solid and Calverton can’t find the finish. With 11 minutes played Brendan makes an important save at the feet of the encroaching attacker to deny the shot. The ball punted up field is played out for Calverton’s first corner. Dane rushes over to take and finds the head of Harry up from the back to give Calverton the start they need 0-1. At the restart a defensive slip up is pounced on by David but he scuffs his shot wide of the goal. 20 played and Rainworth have a heart stop moment after Brendan’s massive clearance forces the defence to head back to the keeper, the header has a little too much on it and almost defeats the Tigers keeper who does well to hold on and keep it out of their own net. Bradley is doing some fine work from midfield and sets up Hakeem with a lovely cross but he fails to connect. 3 minutes remaining in the half and the Colts show their prowess with a sublime ball from Preston to pick out Brad who shows great control and lays the ball back for Preston to strike just wide of the upright. The whistle sounds for the break and Calverton leading the encounter 0-1.

No changes for the re-start and immediately Colts push to extend the lead and Brad earns a corner, Dane takes, it is half cleared and the final shot from Darrell is easy for the Tigers keeper. Then as Rainworth break, Preston brings down the Tigers attacker inside the area and the ref has no hesitation to give a penalty. Brendan elects to go the right way but the ball struck well is placed just out of reach and Rainworth level it to 1-1. Calverton keep pressing with Brad working hard to create the chances, finally Calverton get their reward when Wilko’s strike bounces back for Hakeem to side foot high into the net to restore the lead 1-2. The goal coming in the 48th minute. 4 minutes later and Mick signals a change bringing Luke on upfront for David. Luke a minute later sees his shot strike a few players and safely into the keepers arms. Then on 59 Rainworth get the equaliser and put the game to extra time with a great free kick placed high over Brendan. Full time 2-2.

Extra time and 10 minutes each way Mick starts the half with Brad off and Hakeem back in. Immediately the change is effective when Hakeem finds Joe whose shot is deflected for a corner. The corner comes in from Dane a low shot strikes the post, bounces out to Raynor but his shot is wide. Rainworth return the play and have a strong 6 minutes keeping Calverton pinned in their own half. 7 minutes of et played and Luke sees his effort well saved and the defender clear the ball away conceding the corner. Mick puts David back in bringing off Wilko and Darrell steps up to take the corner. Well struck it falls nicely for Dane to poke in from close range and the lead once again restored before half-time 3-2.

Rainworth sense the urgency and keep pushing earning throw after throw and cannot find away through as Calverton shut up shop. 2 minutes remaining and Harry leaves the field after taking a knock, Brad returning to watch over the last two minutes. Finally those agonising two minutes are over and Calverton earn a place in the final.

Great stuff boys.

Thank you Rainworth for a thrilling game.

Match Report

Calverton’s first visit to West Bridgford Lions new ground at Holme Pierpoint ended with their first league defeat of the season. A dismal first half performance from the boys ended 2-1 to the Lions. Dominic opened the Lions score after 10 minutes lobbing the keeper after a defensive mix-up. Ten minutes late it was 2-0, again poor defending allowing Dominic to slot the ball past the keeper. Against the run of play good work from Elliot and Darrell resulted in DJ scoring from just inside the box. Five minutes later Preston brilliantly lobbed the Lions keeper from outside the box only for the ball to fall just over the bar. HT 2-1 Lions.
The first 20 minutes of the second half saw Calverton gain a little more composure and a lot better performance from the boys. A mixture of some poor finishing and some great goal keeping kept the score at 2-1. But five from the end and Dominic completed his hat trick, after more chaos in the Calverton defense, firing low into the bottom corner from just inside the area. Final score 3-1 Lions. Thanks Bridgford for a good game.

Thanks Simon for providing the report.

Saturday 2nd February 2008 (Notts FA Shield)

Calverton MW Colts 1 - 3 Drezden Colts
Goal Scorer Luke Humphries 6

Match Report

Shield quarter finals are never an easy affair but when your short on players and playing Mansfield s top, in form side it’s never going to be a walk in the park. Mick starts with Joe available as sub missing Hakeem, Preston, Harry and Ryan (Injured).
The lads start the game or should I say Drezden start and we are not even out of the dressing room scoring within seconds of the start to take an early lead 0-1. Colts have everything to do and 5 minutes later Luke restores the balance from David’s clever ball inside. Drezden’s front men and in particular Ross causing all sorts of problems, only Raynor seems to be getting the better of Ross. Most of this half we see Drezden pushing towards goal but never getting a clean strike of goal. HT 1-1.
The restart and Calverton prove lightning does strike twice, Drezden just surge forward and go through the Colts unchallenged to regain the lead 1-2. Only 1 minute of this half played. The team from Mansfield continue to pile on the pressure with Brendan coming a long way to the edge of the are to force a shot wide. Then with 36 minutes played Drezden punish us further, with a high ball into the centre of the goal, again time on the ball gives them the shot and goal. Mick tries to get the lads motivated but some heads are dropping, Ben comes off for Joe to join in. Ross for ever a threat gets through again, this time Brendan reads it and gets there first to clear. Calverton with little to offer cannot get anything together and the only possession of note is a free kick on 56 that’s drilled into the wall of body’s and brought away. Full time 1-3. A tough day at the office and Calverton’s first loss of the season. Well played Drezden we wish you the best in the semi final and hopefully the final.

Edit:- Drezden went on to win the final against Southwell 1-0. Congratulations Drezden

Sunday 27th January 2008 (LGE) k.o. 12:30

Calverton MW Colts 4 - 1 Vernon Colts White HT 1-0
Goal Scorers Preston Robinson, David Richardson, Ben Coupe, Dane Wakefield

Subs Brendan, Ben, David, Joe
Our second encounter with Vernon currently with 8 losses and 2 wins are looking to get something out of this game after also bowing out of the shield last week to WB Lions.
Elliot gets the game under way with a nice ball to Luke who lets fly but the shot is deflected for a corner, Vernon deal with it and push the ball back up field. 4 minutes played and Luke earns us a corner which Dane takes the ball headed out finds Raynor who’s overhead kick is over the bar for goal kick. A series of corners one in the 11th and the 16th noteworthy as shots come in from Luke and Hakeem but both miss the target. It’s not all Calverton and with 10 left in the half Vernon break and force a fine save from Ryan then a few minutes later they get another shot on target, this one a little easier for Ryan to collect. Eventually Calverton get the goal they have been looking for when Preston shoots and scores side footed to the keepers left. Elliot wins the ball back at the re start and gives Hakeem a goal scoring opportunity his shot is fumbled by the keeper and out for a corner. Vernon deal with that and the ref blows for half time. 1-0.
Luke is changed out for David and the first 5 minutes of the half pass without any real incident. Then 35 minutes played Wilko plays a great ball up to David who slots it neatly into the corner of Vernon’s net 2-0. Two minutes later and a second sub puts Joe into midfield replacing Elliot. David has lit up Calverton’s attacks and gets through again on the 40th minute but this time the defender does well and puts it out for the corner. Nothing comes from the set piece then David, again involved, flicks on a great ball for Hakeem but his shot is saved and another corner to Calverton in the 44th minute. The stoppage allows another change With Ben replacing Hakeem, and Vernon get the corner away. 2 minutes later and Vernon close the score to 2-1 when they break up the right going round Raynor into the area and round Ryan who comes out narrow the angles, a neat finish to good build up play. It gets scrappy for a while then Vernon break again with 6 minutes left and Ryan bravely denies a shot from Jahmar diving at his feet, Ryan takes a knock and has to retire with Brendan replacing him. Preston also leaves the field fr Hakeem to return at the front. Then Callum spots Ben in a fantastic position who takes his pass and one on one with the keeper he keeps his cool and calmly puts it away 3-1 Calvo. Into the final minute and Calverton confirm the win when Brad is brought down a good way into Vernon territory. Dane steps up take and thumps it high into the top corner to end the game 4-1.
Well done Calverton and thanks Vernon.

Notts FA Shield 4th Round – Saturday 12th January 2008

Calverton MW Colts 5 - 0 Manor 4 th Red (Hakeem Jackson 39,47, Sam Raynor 51, Bradley Woodcock 55, OG 59)

Subs Brendan, Joe

Calverton’s fourth round game in the Notts FA trophy where we are at home to Manor 4 th Red. Manor playing in the Mansfield Chad League Division 1 have 7 goals without reply in this competition but are battling near the bottom of the league taking only 4 points from 5 games.

Calverton's squad is somewhat depleted today with the absences of Preston (cup tied), Harry and Ben, forcing some changes to the squad.

Referee Robert Wood gets the game under way with Brendan and Joe on the bench. Calverton push immediately and earn a throw in. Put back in to play the ball is pumped up field only for Hakeem to be ruled offside. 6 played and Callum forces a save off the Manor keeper after some good work from Brad and David provide the opening. 7 minutes later and Darell's shot is well saved . Manor not offering much in return seem happy to play the game from the back and it must be said that the game plan looks to be working. 19 minutes played and Brad and Elliot link up but the final ball into the forwards is picked up by the Manor defence and brought out to safety. Very little to write about up to the half time whistle, clearly some words of encouragement needed from the Mick to whip the lads up. HT 0-0.

The second half gets under way with Brendan replacing Ryan between the sticks, and Manor's first real push in the game is given offside. 38 played and Elliot with some lovely footwork gets through the Manor defence and sees his shot tipped onto the post and out for a corner. Dane takes and eventually the ball drops in front of Hakeem who pokes it home at close range to ease the nerves somewhat, 1-0 with 39 minutes on the clock. A minute later and Luke makes a great run and is brought down around 20 yards out, Darrell takes the resulting free kick but the strike is over the bar and out for a goal kick. Calverton's second of the game comes on 47 with an excellent ball from Luke to Hakeem who finishes neatly past the Manor keeper. The restart signals another change with Joe coming on for David. Calverton quickly regain possession from the restart and earn another free kick, Darrell takes but the clearance is only as far as Raynor who makes it 3-0 with a good strike high over the keeper. 52 on the clock and Manor get a free kick in shooting distance, the kick struck well is well saved by Brendan and Calverton clear their lines. Five minutes from the end and Bradley makes it 4-0 with a wonderful individual effort finishing low into Manors net. Another change with Hakeem off and David back in to see out the remaining minutes. 57 on the clock and Elliot wins a corner but the ball is hit across the goal mouth and out for a Goal kick. 1.5 minutes left and Joe's ball into the box takes a deflection to give Calverton their 5 th goal and entry into the quarter finals. Full time 5-0. Not the best Calverton performance today but a job well done in the end, perhaps some match nerves taking it's toll or the reshaped squad taking some time to settle down. Well done lads 21 goals without reply in this competition. Thank you Manor we wish you well with the rest of your season.

YEL Division 1 U12's - Sunday 6th January 2008

Pelican Colts Blue 1 - 3 Calverton MW Colts ( Preston Robinson 8, Darell Hargreaves 16, Luke Humphries 30)

Subs: Brendan, Elliot, Hakeem and Callum.

First game of the new year takes us on a return visit to Pelican Colts, whom we narrowly avoided losing to in a tight home fixture 3 weeks previous. Pelican, unbeaten in their last seven games could narrow the gap to four points if they win today. Calverton still unbeaten this season are keen to kick off the new year with a win over our close rivals and extend their unbeaten run to nine league games. Everything to play for then in today's top of the table clash.

The game gets under way at the “Dave Eastwood Ground” on a brilliantly sunny, crisp winter morning with Pelican immediately on the attack to earn a corner inside the first minute. Calverton's back line deal with the incoming cross and clear back up field for Darrell to feed a lovely timed ball on to David, but Pelican's defence read it well and make a vital interception to stop David getting through on goal. A minute later and Calvo's first corner of the game is cleared. Five played and David earns Calvo their second corner, Darrell takes and it goes over the goal area for Dane to put back in to the melee, Raynor gets a good firm head on it but sees his effort just wide of the upright. The early pressure from Calverton pays off with a goal in the 8 th minute after Ben finds Preston who embarks on the long way round the Pelican defence before striking beautifully past the keepers left to open the scoring 0-1. Two minutes later Pelican test Ryan with a high cross but it's easily handled and Calverton clear their lines. Calvo keep on the onslaught up front with Darrell hitting the bar and dragging one wide, also a half shout for a penalty when David is brought down, the ref was right next to play and signalled play on so no real argument there. Darell's efforts are finally rewarded in the 16 th minute with a peach of a goal high over the keeper from the right side and into the back corner of the net. 0-2 Calverton. Little action at either end for the next 12 minutes with both midfield units battling it out for possession. 28 played and Raynor up for a corner shoots over the bar and at the other end Pelican break but the final shot lacks power and is easy for Ryan. Then with the whistle pressed to the ref's lips David finds Luke, who lets fly in front of goal, the keeper gets a hand on to but fails to turn it over the bar and Calverton finish the half 0-3 up.

HT 0-3

No changes for the restart but Calverton immediately strike at goal forcing a great save from Preston's strike. Pelican respond with a shot just wide of the upright a couple of minutes later. Calvo see further chances go wide of the uprights after good work from Joe and Ben in the midfield. Time for changes on the 40 minute mark with Brad leaving the field for Elliot to take up on the right. Elliot earns a corner with 43 played signalling another change with Hakeem on for Luke. The corner dealt with by Pelican and plays runs on to 46 and a third substitution this time Elliot having to leave the field after an innocent elbow catches him high in the face and Callum replaces him on the field. Pelican step up a gear and some clever link up play is finally ruled offside to deny further progress. Neither side seeming able to get shots on target in this half but eventually Pelican break with 7 minutes left to play, a nice thru ball finished neatly but the the whistle already blown for offside the goal ruled out. Pelican eventually get rewards for their efforts with 56 on the clock after a nice header is put into the net from a well taken corner. 1-3. One final change from Mick before the restart with Brad back in for Preston and the clock runs down to the final whistle and Calverton come away with the three points. A great result for Calverton and Pelican missing out on an opportunity to close the gap. The season not over by a long way but Calverton very relieved to take 4 points of the 6 available from tough opposition.

Calverton MW Colts 3 - 3 Pelican Colts Blue (Hakeem Jackson 5, Preston Robinson 34, David Richardson 60)

Subs: Luke, Ryan, Joe and Elliot

Calverton have home advantage but are fully aware that Pelican are looking to close in on the league leaders. Pelican who have lost only once this season would see a win close that gap.

Immediately from the whistle Pelican apply pressure and two early chances go out past the posts. But Calverton respond with just 5 minutes on the clock after Brad places a fine free kick over to the far post for Hakeem to put away at close range. 1-0. Hakeem again forces a good save from the Pelican keeper on 8 minutes after Preston put him through on goal. Unfortunately this must have rattled some of the Pelican players and Brad is scythed down 2 minutes later. The referee produces a yellow to the Pelican forward, who could really have no complaints. Brad is unable to continue and Luke takes over. Pelicans forwards causing all sorts of problems but the back line hold well with Ben getting in some strong challenges to prevent any accurate finishing. 24 minutes played and Calverton are awarded a free kick 25 yards out but directly in front of goal. Dane takes high towards the net but the keeper makes a super save to stop the score progressing. Only seconds later Luke has a great opportunity but drags wide of the upright. Pelican break from the goal kick and finish in superb style with a thundering shot high into the far corner of Calverton's net. Brad rejoins just before the end of the half with Luke back to the bench, half time and all square at 1-1.

No changes for the start of the second half and Calverton strike within minutes after earning a corner. Dane's cross eventually finding Preston who finishes with some aplomb to give Calverton the lead back in the 34 th minute. 36 played and Ben leaves the field after taking a knock giving Elliot a taste of the action. Pelican looking to level again get a corner and after coming off two heads the ball is finally cleared away up field. A couple of chances go wide but on the 42 mark it's Pelican who find the net when a good clean strike is deflected off Callum leaving Brendan wrong footed and the scores back to level once again. 5 minutes later and Pelican take the lead for the first time in the game , pouncing on some defensive uncertainty but finishing superbly. 2-3 to Pelican and 13 minutes left to play. Now I have to say that blow for blow both teams had and missed their chances but Calverton were literally given a dying seconds lifeline to salvage the point. David being the hero today with a long range speculative thump at goal, everyone on the side line holding their breath and then jubilation to see it drop over the Pelican keeper and into the net to complete the game 3-3. The final whistle sounds only half a minute after the restart. Calverton's first draw of the season and very nearly losing all three points. An absolute nail biter to watch and it sets it up nicely for the new year return game at the Dave Eastwood Ground.

Thanks Pelican, see you January 2008.

Notts FA Shield – Saturday 1st December 2007

Calverton Colts U12 5-0 Manor 4th Yellow ( Bradley Woodcock 5, 57, Luke Humphries 6, Hakeem Jackson 30, David Richardson 51)

Subs - Elliot, Ryan, Harry

Calverton in top form at the moment, looked to progress today into the last 16 of the NFAS. Not a lot known about Manor 4 th, but Calverton's confidence is running pretty high at the moment.

Immediately from the off Calverton break but the ball is hit too long for Hakeem, seconds later and Hakeem gets a second chance this time the cross is put in perfectly from Darrell and Hakeem's shot shaves the upright and out for a goal kick. 3 played and Luke earns Calverton their first corner, which brings a fantastic save from Manor's keeper, tipping it wide for another corner. Dane takes but this time Raynor is there to bring it down, he spots Brad in a good position in front of goal, and Brad taps home to open the scoring with 4.5mins on the clock. From the restart Calverton quickly recover possession and Luke moves the score along to 2-0 after some excellent work from Brad in midfield, to supply Luke with his 5 th goal of the season. Manor, rocked, batten down the hatches and the keeper makes a fine save off Hakeem in the 10 th minute, Danes shot in the 11 th pulling off another fine save. Calverton just keep coming at them but it has to be said that some excellent defensive work and some fantastic goal keeping keep Calverton's score down. With so much pressure being put onto Manor 4th's back four eventually it was going to give, and it did with only seconds before the break after Luke lays back an inviting ball for Hakeem to put in low to the keepers right. Calverton go in at half time 3-0 up.

Changes at half time see Callum, Hakeem and keeper Brendan leave the field and Harry, Elliot and Ryan join. Calverton pick up where they left off in the first half and immediately Brad is into the action again, this time his ball a little late to David and the flag goes up for offside. 37 played and Brad again with an individual effort takes it past three and gets clear on goal, Manors keeper doing well to save with his feet. Manor had their moments up front and a great opportunity on the 40 th minute is spotted by Dane who makes a crucial last man tackle to deny Manor the shot opportunity. Calverton find the net with 42 played but a late flag from the linesman and the ref pulls back play for offside. A change is made with 13 left to play with Darrell off to allow Callum back into the game. Just back on the field and Brad finds Callum who lets fly with his left but the keeper gathers. 40 played and David nudges the score along to 4-0 with a terrific volley from Luke's cross, after Elliot's great work up the right to make the opening. Another change signalled brings Luke off in a straight swap for Hakeem. Some more great work from the lads in the middle, who don't get mentioned often, but Joe, Brad and Elliot are going all out to keep the possession. Wilko also worthy of a mention coming up from deep to make invaluable tackles to get possession back for the lads upfront. All the hard work pays off when Brad links up with Callum in a neat 1-2 and finishes brilliantly to get his second of the game with 3 minutes left to play. Calverton play out the final minutes to advance to round four without conceding in this competition so far. Brad deservedly having the final say. Manor never really given the time to find their feet but were sporting throughout the encounter, thanks Manor for a good game and good luck with the rest of your season. Full time 5-0.

YEL Division 1 U12's - Sunday 25 th November 2007

Calverton MW Colts 5 - 0 AFC Vernon Colts White (Preston Robinson 2, Sam Raynor, Dane Wakefield, Hakeem Jackson)

Subs Ryan, Callum, Hakeem, Joe and Harry

Calverton’s fourth away league fixture takes them to Vernon Park for their game with Vernon White. Still in the FA Shield, Vernon, now featuring former Calvo striker Jahmar upfront, have only one league win under their belt and have not won at home this season.

Calverton took control immediately and opened up the scoring in the third minute, after a misplaced goal kick landed invitingly for Preston who thumped it back high over the keeper into the net. Some excellent play from the midfield lads give Preston, David and Elliot all shot opportunity’s but it has to be said that the Vernon defence was very solid, getting in some important tackles.

After 16 minutes of play Vernon break up field but the final ball through is deemed offside leaving Jahmar frustrated on the edge of Calverton’s 18 yard area. Calverton immediately break back and Preston forces a fine save to earn Calverton a corner. The result is goal number 2 for Calverton as Dane’s corner runs along the cross bar and drops for Raynor to nod home at the far post. Calverton’s third comes in the 26th minute when Ben makes a delightful chip over for Preston to latch on to and hit home from close range. Mick is forced into his first change a minute later with Joe replacing Luke, who comes off after sustaining a blow to the chest. Two minutes to half time and Vernon’s Jahmar gets the ball fed in , the flag stays down and Brendan dives to Jahmar’s feet, the ball pops out and Jahmar gets a second chance but hits it over the bar. Calverton respond in the final minute with goal number 4, Dane scoring close in.

HT 0-4

Second half changes put Hakeem and Harry on for Dane and Preston . Vernon strike early but the final shot is scuffed wide of the upright. Vernon look determined to get back into the game and see another shot just wide with 34 played. Again on the 40 minute mark Vernon break and force Brendan off his line to concede a corner. The corner runs dangerously through all the front men across the goal mouth , but is only part cleared. A shot comes in striking the upright and bounces into a thankful Brendan’s arms. Another change on 42 swaps Callum for Elliot.

Calverton start to take the game back to Vernon after soaking up the early pressure and on 56 David is brought down in the box, the ref and linesman have no doubts and the penalty is given. Hakeem steps up and strikes low and hard to the keepers left to bring the score to 5-0. 10 minutes left to play and Mick brings Dane and Preston back on for David and Bradley, no further changes and Calverton play out the remaining time to win 5-0.

Well done lads and thank you Vernon for a good game.

YEL U12's Cup Sunday 18th November 2007 Calverton MWFC 2 – West Bridgford Lions 1 ( Preston Robinson 3, Dane Wakefield 58)

Subs - Hakeem, Ben, Brendan, Joe, Elliot

Calverton face their second encounter with West Bridgford Lions today in the YEL Cup.

Bridgford, who are unbeaten at home this season, have earned 2 league wins and a whopping 16-0 victory in the Notts FA shield since our last encounter and will be looking to make amends following their narrow defeat to us last time round.

On a very wet and cold day the Lions get the game under way but Calverton immediately take control and open the scoring with only 3 minutes played. Nice link up play sees Bradley wide right, who lays the ball back for Harry to pump into the area, the Bridgford defence return the ball only as far as Preston, who strikes it home with a sweet volley into the Lions net. 1-0 to the Colts.

7 minutes played and Calverton earn a free kick around the halfway line, Dane takes it and places it perfectly onto Brads head who nods it just wide of the upright. A minute later and another free kick this time taken by Darrell brings a fine save in the difficult conditions.

Excellent work in midfield from Wilko, Preston and Darrell keep the Lions pinned firmly into their own half of the field, and a switched on back four play the offside well whenever the Lions did get through.

24 minutes and Calverton are dominating the half , Luke hitting a ball high over the bar from close range after David's excellent work to get past two and supply the cross.

Half time 1-0 to the Colts and Bridgford need to come out with a plan.

One change to start the second half puts Hakeem on for David, and Calvo get the second half started. Amazing what a half time team talk can do as Calverton face an entirely different Lions side. Bridgford come out fighting and really turn up the pressure to eke out an equaliser.

And that's exactly what they get on the 40 minute mark with a thundering shot 25 yards out from their number 15, which flies past Ryan to make things level.

Bridgford are on fire and Calverton have to pull out all the stops to prevent the Lions taking the lead. This goes on for 20 minutes of the half, but then with 10 left to play you get the sense Bridgford are beginning to tire.

At this time Callum comes off and David goes back into the game, looking to get that all important goal.

The goal that decides the game comes with only 2 minutes left to play. Calverton earning a corner push everyone but the keeper into the box and Darrell goes over to the flag to take.

A great ball over to the far post , Dane leaps up and gets a firm head onto it to put it into the back of the Bridgford net.

Devastating for West Bridgford and an ecstatic Calverton hear the final whistle to win the game 2-1.

Even more devastating for West Bridgford is to have the game yet again stolen from them in the dying minutes of the game.

An absolutely thrilling game in appalling conditions, this should have been the final in my mind.

Well done Colts who are now 8 wins in 8 games, and again thanks West Bridgford for a terrific game.

YEL Division 1 U12's - Sunday 21st October 2007

Calverton MWFC 4 - Kimberley MWFC 0 ( H Bateman 7, P Robinson 13, 59, D Richardson 40)

Subs: Luke, David, Ben, Brendan

With Kimberley still looking for their first win of the season, Calverton get the game under way.

After only 4 minutes Mick is forced into a substitution when Wilko elects to come off, suffering from back pain. Ben takes up his role at the back.

Kimberley get their first moment in the game after the swap , breaking quickly with a nice ball inside, however Harry reads it well and cuts out the final ball before Kimberley get the shot off.

Callum and Elmer link up well to break the other way and force the keeper to come out, his touch putting it put out for a corner. Dane takes and its deflected out on the other side. Dane trots across to take the second corner which is met by the keeper who juggles and fails to hold, a grateful Harry is there to put it away from close in. 1-0 Calverton.

Kimberley come back up field earning a series of throws that come to nothing and then find a nice ball over the defence, Ryan spots the danger early, collects it and clears his lines. 13 minutes played and Elmer collects the ball and works it through to Preston who thunders Calvertons second high into the corner of Kimberley's net to bring the score along to 2-0.

Kimberley respond immediately back up field and see a shot tipped wide of the upright, the resultant corner isn't handled that well and a second shot eventually goes just wide of the far post.

The half plays out with nothing further to note.

HT 2-0

A half time change sees Luke join in upfront replacing Hakeem.

Calverton settle in early and Preston's low shot forces a fine save in the 34 th minute. 37 played and Mick makes his third change by bringing David on for Preston. 3 Minutes later and David announces himself with a goal, after a good ball in from Luke is slotted low to the keepers right. The change upfront brings about a new partnership with both David and Luke linking up again on the 46 minute mark, but the shot is scuffed wide. Another change sees Brendan on a minute later, Ryan coming off after keeping his 4 th clean sheet of the season.

Kimberley not finished by any means break with some nice link up play but the final shot was always gong wide. 52 played and Preston gets back into the action replacing Darrell.

A series of plays from both sides lead to nothing but with the final whistle pressed to the ref's lips Calverton get their fourth goal and Preston his second after some clever link up play between Bradley and Luke puts Preston clear in front of goal , where he hammers home high into the centre of the net.

Full time 4-0. Calverton remain on the maximum but a two week break ahead of them has spelled problems in the past. Thank you Kimberley for an excellent game.

YEL Division 1 U12's Sunday- Sunday 14th October 2007

Basford United 1 - Calverton MWFC 6 ( D Hargreaves 8, 48 (Pen), C Bradwell 11, 59, P Robinson 29, D Wakefield 51)

Today see’s Calverton travel away to play Basford United at Mill Street Playing Fields. Basford’s season so far as seen them unbeaten with three draws and a win over West Bridgford behind them.

Subs today, Wilko, Elmer and Hakeem.

From the opening whistle Basford make the better start earning a corner within the first two minutes of play. Calverton not quite settled yet struggle on like this up to the 8th minute with Basford kicking a further four corners.

A goal is needed to settle Calvo down and DJ supplies it with a monster free kick awarded about 40 yards out. A fantastic goal to open up Calverton’s account.

Three minutes later Callum makes it 2-0, striking a searching ball from David left footed into the far corner of Basford’s net. Basford are not down and force a good save off Brendan in 12 th minute. In fact, despite Calverton scoring twice, Basford have had the better possession only to be denied in the final third of the field by the back four of Ben, Raynor, Dane and Harry.

With 20 gone Calverton finally begin to settle down and play some football. Preston, strong from the midfield, see’s his shot over the bar and Luke misses one to the right. Almost the end of the half and Calverton earn their first corner of the game. Dane places a brilliant ball in for Bradley who nods it onto the bar but Preston is there to clear up and buries it to give Calverton a 3-0 halftime lead.

HT 0-3

Basford begin the second half looking to claw back the deficit and find their mark in the 33 rd minute to bring the score line up to 1-3. A well timed ball played long over to the right corner, looking if it may go out, is met and returned over Brendan into the far corner.

Basford begin to turn it up slightly and almost get a second in the 40 th minute, when a misjudged ball bounces over Brendan, but Raynor saves his blushes and clears away.

A little bit of frustration sneaking into the game now and Basford concede a couple of free kicks, with Bradley feeling the brunt of some heavy challenges and is duly replaced by Elmer.

48 minutes played and the ref signals a clear penalty to Calverton after David is brought down in the box. David gives the ball to DJ who promptly puts it high into the centre of the net to extend Calverton’s lead to 1-4. Mick makes his second substitution with David leaving the field for Hakeem.

Basford immediately break from the restart and put a shot just over the bar and give Calverton a wake up. Ben replies with a lovely ball back up field to Hakeem whose shot is off target and easily dealt with.

Only 9 left on the clock and Calverton put the game out of Basford's reach after Dane’s corner deflects off the defence into the back of the net. Wilko joins the game at this point replacing Ben at the back. Calverton happy to hold their 1-5 lead.

However, with only a minute of play left, Basford get mixed up at the back and the keeper handles a back pass to award Calverton an indirect free kick. Preston knocks it sideways and Callum dutifully puts away his second and Calverton’s sixth to end the game 1-6.

This performance today puts Calverton on the maximum 15 points. Well done lads, a great game today lets keep it up.

YEL Division 1 U12's Sunday - Sunday 30th Sept 2007

Calverton MWFC 3 (D Hargreaves 29, B Woodcock 38, L Humphries 59) West Bridgford Lions 2

Calverton's fourth competitive league game of the season saw us at home to WB Lions. The Lions placed fourth in the league this morning were looking to continue their winning ways after their 7-2 victory over Kimberley last week.

Mick elected to start with Brendan, Callum, Ben and Luke on the bench with Joe unavailable after breaking his arm. Get well soon Joe.

Calverton began slowly and each side had their moments of possession, but it wasn't until the 10th minute that Calverton got a shot away after Harry fired in a long ball for DJ to shoot just wide. 15mins played and DJ again with a shot opportunity puts it over from the 18yard line. Elmer forces a save a minute later, after he finds himself in a great position. A corner to the Colts in the 23rd minute bounced around in the area and the final shot eventually back out off the far post.

West Bridgford for their part kept soaking it up and coming back with their own breaks and on the 25th minute opened the scoring. A long ball pumped up field saw Ryan leave his line to collect but the incoming Bridgford attack got to the ball just ahead. The resultant collision left Ryan on the ground and Bridgford had an empty net to tap home. The referee consulted with the linesman and no infringement was given so the goal stood. Ryan, unable to continue, is replaced with Brendan for the remainder of the game.

Calverton needed to square things up before the half with Hakeem just wide in the 28th minute after a superb cross from Elmer. With only a minute to HT Calverton are awarded free kick about 25 yards out. DJ elects to shoot at goal and opens up with a fantastic shot high, over the keeper, into the centre of the net. Only seconds to play out and Calverton finish the half all square.

HT 1-1

The second half begins with two changes, Luke replacing David up front and Ben replacing Harry at the back. Immediately Calverton press for the second goal and Hakeem shoots just wide at the 31min mark.

Bridgford sense the same and again press us into our own half and see a couple of chances run just wide. The new pace upfront from Luke troubles Bridgford and eventually Calverton take the lead after Luke finds Bradley who slots it away neatly to the keepers right to make score 2-1 with 38 on the clock.

Luke again a couple of minutes later finds Hakeem who rides a strong tackle to get the ball across the goal only to see the shot blazed wide. Bridgford don't stop and controversy over a corner, they felt, should have been awarded only fires them up some more. So it was no surprise they find the equaliser in the 46th minute, their shot placed well over the keeper to bring it back to 2-2. Mick makes his fourth change bringing Callum on for Elmer over on the left side. Immediately Callum is involved and sees his ball into the box put over the bar from DJ. It's clear neither side are looking to share the points but it's Dane who has the best chance with a vicious shot that the keeper saves brilliantly parrying over the bar. With four minutes left David re joins with Hakeem sitting out the final few minutes. 59 minutes on my clock and it looks like we are settling for the draw, Luke has other plans however and spoils Bridgford's day with a late winner. Brad supplies the ball but its Luke’s finish that nets us the three points as he curls it with perfect precision low into the corner of a deflated WB side.

Final score 3-2

An incredibly hard fought game that must leave WB feeling they should have come away with something.

Sunday 23 September - Priory Celtic Green 0 v  Calverton MW 3

Calverton’s good start to the season continued with a good victory against one of last years bogey teams in Priory Celtic.

playing without DJ and Hakeem due to illness and injury, Joe made a start in centre midfield  with the rest of the team unchanged from the starting line up against Rainworth.

Calverton started well with Preston and Dane hitting nice corners into Priory's box. Dane hit a free kick over the bar, shortly after from a corner Harry got his head to a ball directed it towards goal for Preston to force it over the line for Calverton to take the lead. Priory hit back and Ryan made a fantastic save with his legs from a Priory free kick.

All the defence were doing well with as usual Sam covering superbly at the back on the rare occasion that Priory got through.

Joe came off at half time with Brad moving into the centre and Elmo taking the wide right role. Priory started well with the defence facing a sterner challenge than the first half, Ryan again saved well from a Priory break.

Ben came on for Luke with twenty minutes to go and doing very well in a unfamiliar role as centre forward .after soaking up a lot of pressure a quick throw from Callum found Preston who hooked the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards.

after the second goal Calverton played some good football which resulted in Calverton’s third goal, Brad lobbing the keeper three nil .

well done all the lads for a great win, especially Ryan for his third clean sheet and thanks Priory for a good game of football. .....................

Sunday 16 September - Calverton 4 v Rainworth u12 0

From as early as the second minute Calverton were putting Rainworth under pressure with blocked shots from Callum and Luke. After good defensive work by Wilko and passing between David and Bradley yet another shot was blocked from Luke.

After 12 minutes Rainworth’s no 11 went off after treatment only to see the Calverton pressure increase with a cross from Callum which appeared to be handled in the box and a corner from Dane that was cleared off the line. 18 minutes saw good link play between Bradley and Luke to gain a corner and with a good delivery from Dane saw Harry hit the crossbar with a header. 2mins later saw a quick roll out to Wilko a long ball to Luke whose shot hit the side netting. 5mins to half time saw Rainworth’s only first half effort with their no 16 running between Raynor and Harry whose shot was easily taken by Ryan.

With half time approaching a looping cross by Callum bounced over their keeper and was handled on the line by no 24 and the penalty was given and easily put away by DJ who was unlucky not to get a second being given offside which was close to say the least half 1-0. The second half continued as the first ended with a well delivered free kick by Dane put away by Bradley 2-0 and only minutes later saw another free kick from Dane flicked on by a defender and David finished well to make it 3-0 Calverton.

The second half continued with good displays in midfield from Preston and Bradley and a defence in no mood to let Rainworth through. With Callum and Luke off and Elmer & Hakeem on Calverton’s pressure continued and after a super run by Bradley a lovely looping shot by Elmer made it 4-0. David came off for Joe near the end which saw a quick throw by Wilko to Preston whose pass to Hakeem was netted but given offside. Ryan (2games 2 clean sheets) was replaced by Brendan for the last couple of minutes which saw Calverton through to a comfortable victory due to a good all round team performance.

9th September 2007 - Gedling Town Red 0 v 3 Calverton MW FC U12s

Well the season starts here and what a start it was. The boys played there hearts out, Gedling are always tough competition but Calverton took control from the start and never lost it throughout. After a few missed chances Calverton took the lead through David Richardson and with a few more chances missed, the boys only went in at half time one up.

The second half starts and within minutes super sub Luke Humphreys makes it two with a great burst of speed down the wing and a shot that left the keeper with no chance. More and more pressure put on the Gedling defence and goal number three, this time a nice little run from Bradley Woodcock and a great finish.

Calverton never looked like conceding with a great performance from all in defence and a great display from all in midfield.

Well done boys lets keep up, thanks to Gedling for a great game.
