COLTS TOURNAMENT 2006 IS ANOTHER SUCCESS |
Due to the World cup this years' tournament was brought forward to commence prior to the big kick-off. The timing was still a bit of a gamble as it co-incided with the second week-end of the spring bank holiday and school half term break but there was another huge turn-out with 164 teams entering. This year a few key people were missing due to holidays and this gave the opportunity for a few new people to get involved. In the true Calverton Tournament tradition the weather was superb with glorious sunshine on all but the last late afternoon. A couple of mentions need to be made regarding Pete Bowman's Under 12 team who stepped up to fill a vacancy in the Under 13 age group and for Micky Bradwell's Under 10 who filled in for a drop-out in a very strong Under 11 group. Big thanks to both teams who gave an excellent account. |

Finally, I asked Pete if he could say a word or two about the refs and whether or not there was any funny incedents. This was his response...
"Yes John,
The other two were older but still off the level 7 course, Dan Locker and Tony Collins. All of these with the exception of Craig Todd reffed for the whole of the weekend.
Added to this were Sam Hodgson, Chris Edson, Glen Fisher, Tony Mullen, Mark Curwood, Leon Murdy and Jiggy, once again with the scorers.

UNDER 11 TOURNAMENT REPORT
The Calverton Tournament now attracts most of the Top teams in the county and to get through the Group stages and into the knockout stage is an achievement in itself. On paper the Blue squad were drawn in the hardest of groups with 3 of the tournament favourites
On to the Knockout stage and the Blue team met Toton who went into an early lead which we never recovered from, in the end loosing 3-0. The Red team had a tough task against
Down to the Penalty shoot out and the boys took their chances , whilst Mathew pulled off the saves to take us to the Final against
Calverton worked hard and created the chances but couldn't put the ball away.
As for Man of the Match, well I think both Keepers deserve a special mention as they were outstanding, but I think this was really a Team effort so I have to give it to all 16 boys who contributed this weekend. Well done everyone.
