Messing about on the computer and came across the site, very intersting.I have enclosed a 'photo that was taken in 1961 before a game against Carlton Athletic at the Cricket Field in Carlton.
That's me in goal, shortest man on the team, I always wanted to be a goalkeeper but unfortunately I never grew above 5'-7'.Does anyone remember an exhibition game against a Rotherham select team which we lost by a hatful of goals.Their coach talked to me after the game and told me I was good but not tall enough to go further in the game. That was the last time I played in goal for anyone. Four weeks later I was back in the first team playing inside left. In 1962 or 1963 we won promotion from the Notts.Alliance Division 2 as runners-up. Instead of taking this promotion the committee decided to enter the Central Alliance.
We finished near the bottom that year in the Central Alliance and the committee decided to apply to the Bulwell & District League later to become the Notts. Combination League. I left Calverton and went to play for Netherfield Albion in the senior division of the Notts. Alliance.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Calverton, played with some great players, the one I linked up best with was Ronnie Farmer the centre forward. One year Calverton was the first team in Nottingham to score 100 goals in any league, I think Ronnie scored 52 that year.
To the best of my memory, this is the best I can do with the line-up that day. Hopefully you can fill in the blanks.
