The photo was taken on a ground on Crookdole Lane before the bottom Estate was built the teams changed in the Gleaners Inn Public House.
The latest information I have is that Calverton United may well have been the first club in Calverton it was I am told the only club in Calverton at that time and was formed before the actual Colliery side. It was when the Colliery side was formed that Roy Truman switched to them so if this information is correct the actual founding of the Colliery Welfare side is later than what I previously stated and would be about 1950-51. The side pictured played only friendlies the club was run by a three man committee Arthur Worthington, Harry Orange and Fred Nurcombe, Roy Truman was Team Captain.
It is certain that Arthur 'Jotty' (not Jocky) Matthews founded the Colliery Welfare side.
