CML PREMIER DIVISION - Tuesday May 13 2008
BLIDWORTH MW..1 (Vincent) CALVERTON MW..5 (W.Hatfield 2, Middleton 2, Payne)
A ‘supreme’ effort sends Calverton up......!!
Whizz and Ben put Blidworth to the sword and gain promotion !!
On a fine but chilly evening, Calverton travelled to Blidworth knowing that 3 points would secure Runners Up spot and promotion to the Supreme Division of the CML. This was duly achieved with a seasons record of 24 wins from 38 with a goal tally of 107 scored and 42 conceded, by far the best in the Division.
In an unfamiliar, but colourful strip of yellow and blue, the visitors went in front after only 5 minutes when a cross from the right was tucked home by Ben Middleton. Six minutes before the break and the lead was doubled courtesy of a fine goal from leading scorer Warren Hatfield. Blidworth had no answer to the power football from the visitors, but with seconds to go before the interval they pulled one back through Shaun Vincent for some kind of hope for the second half.
Normally a goal near the break gives a team a boost - it did this time for barely 5 minutes, and it was the visitors who upped their game, netting twice within a four minute spell. After a great save from Mark Frost in the home goal, Baz Payne was left with a loose ball tap in to make it 3-1, then Middleton netted his second with yet another close range tap in. It remained 4-1 until the 85th minute when Whizz rounded Frost to score his second and visitors fifth.
A fine victory and a fitting end to a very good season.
