• 2007 is the 40th anniversary of Ormskirk Music Society in its present form

• A picture of Ormskirk Orchestra before 1914 can be downloaded here (288K).

• If you would like a copy of the December 1930 programme of Ormskirk Musical Association (an earlier incarnation of the society) click here (484K) and for a high resolution copy if you have broadband, click here (9.6MB). This was the concert version of 'The Rebel Maid', a Romantic Light Opera by Montague Phillips published in 1923 (stage version in 1921). The song 'The Fishermen of England' may be familiar to members. The score, pictured below, was discovered in Bygone Times in Eccleston and contained the programme - both with what looks likes a tea stain on them.

• Having performed some of Stanford's works (Mag & Nunc in Bb, The Revenge and Irish Rhapsody No. 1) there will be some interest in this synthesised realisation of the vocal score of Phaudrig Crohoore (pronounced Pawdrig). It should also be noted that the spelling 'Phaudrig' for the Irish 'Paudrig' (Patrick) is an attempt at writing dialect. It is a ballad for chorus and orchestra setting the poem by Sheriden LeFanu whose brother asked him to pen 'An Irish Young Lochinvar' (the title of a ballad by Sir Walter Scott).
