Where Are We ?

We are based in the Stretford area, unlike some of the other local clubs (such as Withington Wheelers?) even though our members come from far and wide. And we do have a number of local members from Urmston, Flixton, Sale and neighbouring Chorlton, whilst our sphere of influence extends outwards to Partington, around through Boothstown, Worsley, Whitefield and round to Bury. Then there's a jump where other cycling clubs have met demand, to Macclesfield, where we have a small, but influential, following. Further afield, our membership extends into Yorkshire, of all places, with one die-hard family now based in Harrogate.

Where are you?

Help us plug the gaps.

Total encircling of Manchester is what we need - we are 'Wheelers' after all. Stretford is just our 'hub'.

Meeting places

We meet every Friday at Urmston Lawn Tennis & Cricket Club at 9pm for an informal chat, a few  beers  and time to plan weekend events.

Our Sunday Club Rides generally depart from a number of starting points. The traditional meeting place is the junction of Dane Road / Washway Road (A56) in Sale, at 10 a.m. But beware - other clubs are jumping in on our act and, as often as not, we are being outnumbered by those dubious Withy Wheelers types!

Depending on destination, this group normally reaches the Knutsford end of Tatton Park for 11 a.m. to meet up with further riders. So, if you're late for the Dane Road, you've your work cut out to get through Tatton Park in time!

A second group departs from opposite The Green Dragon PH, Heatley

The usual plan is a ride through the Cheshire lanes to meet up at a pre-arranged cafe for a Full English and a few brews. Summer outings are most likely to involve a few beers too... The target is typically 50 miles or so total, for a winter's day, extending that in summer to beyond 60 miles. The racing members usually increase those distances according to training needs.

Once a month, we hold ' The Presidents Run ' where all members (including the non-cycling ones) make every effort to congregate for lunch and a laugh.

Favourite Haunts

Our Club rides have no fixed format - well you do have to consider how variable the weather is around here. But amongst our target destinations, we have:

Spinneys Dones Green Pop2000 Hollands Garden Centre The Ryles Arms

And other popular cafe stops include places as diverse as: Norton Priory, Beeston Locks, Rivington Church, The Crown - Goostry, Delamere Railway Station.
