May 2011

It’s hard to believe that I have been in post as manager at CareShare now since January.  The time has flown by but I am really enjoying the new role and have settled in well.  This has been made easier by having such a wonderful team of staff who have been very welcoming and supportive.

It has been a pleasure to meet some of you for whom I have been out to do a visit, either for a review or to observe our staff at work.  The visits have given me a real insight as to the needs of people we support and how important CareShare is to carers.  I aim to get out to meet as many of you as time will allow.

Charges

You may or may not be aware that CareShare will continue to receive funding from Gloucestershire County Council for another year – phew!  However, from September 2011 we are being asked to re-tender for a new contract for 2012, which of course we hope to win in order to continue to be able to provide a “free service”.

Since starting here, one thing that has become very apparent is that demand exceeds supply and unfortunately the funding from our County Council contract is not infinite/enough to support everyone.  In order that we respond to local demand, CareShare is now expanding its services to offer a charged service.  The charged service is for those who may still be on our waiting or to those who are currently receiving the free service but may wish to purchase extra hours, in addition to those already funded, either on a regular basis or as and when needed.  This may also include weekends or overnights.

If you are interested in the charged service or would like more information then please do contact the office.

Mileage

In response to the recent fuel increases we have now increased our mileage charge for any trips made by the Carer/Support Worker whilst on visits from 40p per mile to 45p per mile.  I do hope you understand our reasoning behind this increase.

Staff

I am delighted to inform you that Catherine Hattersley, our Senior CSW, has now completed her NVQ level 3 award in Health & Social Care!

All staff recently attended a training update on Safeguarding Adults with the County Council and are also now booked on a medication training course in July.

The training is provided by accredited external training agencies and you can be sure

you are in safe hands with CareShare!

Fundraising

We continue our efforts with fundraising.  I would like to personally thank all those who send donations to CareShare.  All donations make a huge difference and help us to continue to provide services.

We are currently investigating an application to the Barnwood Trust for possible funds but it will be some time before this application is ready for submission.

You will notice I have included a CareShare Lottery application form.  If you already support our lottery then you may know a family member or friend who would like to join.

As part of Carer’s Week we are holding:

A Strawberry Tea Party on Friday 17th June 2011     2.00 – 4.30
To be held at The Ashcroft Centre, Ashcroft Road, Cirencester

Please do come along if you can.

We will also be at The Roadshow in Fairford at the Community Centre on Wednesday 15th June if you want to pop along and say hello between from 11.00am though to 3pm

You may have ideas or suggestions for fund raising. Please tell us. You may feel you could join in with events or help with raffle prizes for some of the future fund raising we are planning. There is no obligation and we will not mind at all if you do not feel you can do so.
