Poppy and Penny arrived in May of 2004. They had been dumped in a tiny rural village along with two half feral cat’s, one being their mum. They were around 5 weeks old. They joined a litter of three black kittens that were being fostered for another rescue. Unfortunately they seem to have been overlooked for re-homing by the rescue. This often happens as there are always far more kittens than good homes available. The problem of overpopulation never takes a break, the constant stream of unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens, results in some remaining with their rescuers.
Sonny arrived in November 2003. He just turned up on his own four paws one day and has never left. He is a middle aged cat and was already neutered. He is extremely laid back and is totally accepting of all the other cats at the sanctuary. Despite all efforts to find an owner no-one has come forward to claim him, and he has no intentions of leaving here of his own free will.
Woody was brought at only 2 days old. He was one of three kittens born to a first time mum. She abandoned them almost at birth and Woody’s siblings died before the neighbour of his mum’s owner found him and brought him to me.
He has had his problems, firstly his tail shriveled, died and dropped off and then at about 14 weeks old, he developed extreme diarrhoea, he spent several weeks in the vets, where it was discovered he had a pancreatic disorder. The treatment he received seems to have cured him.
He is totally manic, like a hyperactive child. He is always into mischief and teases the others mercilessly.
Suzie arrived a few days after Woody in May 2003. She was about two weeks of age.
I was given the ridiculous story that she had walked into a house, when in fact she was only just capable of crawling. I will never know the truth as to how she came to be there, tiny and alone, but it doesn’t matter, She joined Woody and was bottle fed .
She is not a particularly friendly cat and prefers the company of a few of the older cats, especially Taffy, to that of people or her younger housemates.
Update September 8th 2007.
Blossom, Fidget and Tudge were returned to the sanctuary in March 2007.
Through no fault of their own
Niki and Louis offered them a home shortly afterwards with their 2 other cats, but unfortunately it didn’t work out so Niki & Louis are sponsoring these 3 brothers and they have requested they remain at the sanctuary permanently, bringing the number of residents to 30.
