Mountain Biking in the Alpujarras: Mecinilla-Ferreirola-Fondales loop
This is a short, taster run to give you an indication of the terrain and technical difficulty. From the house turn right along the street to the end, right again and right once more past the fountain and left onto the tarmac road by the bar, El Alijbe. At the hotel a little further up the road forks - take the right fork toward Ferreirola. As you enter the village square you will see the fountain on the left, directly opposite this a path leads down through the village which, turning right, takes you onto the track to Fondales (sign posted). This track follows the lower contours of the mountain side, skirting small holdings for the last 200 m before entering Fondales. Travel up through the village to join the road which meanders upward to the El Alijbe bar. Alternatively, do the route in reverse by turning right on leaving the house, then turning left onto the Fondales track after 10 m. 200 m on this track crosses the Mecina-Fondales road, dog leg right 5m, then left, before continuing on for a further 150m and entering the top of the village. Drop down through the village, keeping left, until you reach the signposted track to Ferreirola.
