Mountain Biking in the Alpujarras: Ferreirola-Pitres-Atalbeiter-Ferreirola loop
After leaving the house take the road past El Aljibe, continue to the hotel, take the right fork towards Ferreirola and follow the road round to the 5-a-side football court. Turn left up the side of the pitch, following the road as it climbs steeply on concrete before levelling out to a degree and becoming tarmac again. Stay on this road as it climbs before reaching a fork at 2 km. Stay left continuing to climb a further 500m where, on a righthand bend, you will see a track (signposted with yellow and white markings). Although exposed on the left hand side, this reasonably broad track drops rapidly down a gully before crossing the river and climbing back up into trees on the opposite side. After running alongside an irrigation channel for 60m turn left past the Refugio and right onto the main road below Pitres (GR421). Stay on this road for 5 km as it passes below Portugos and on toward Busquistar. As with the above mentioned route, turn right onto the sign posted jeep track approximately 1 km outside Busquistar. 50m down this track (first bend) turn right onto a small track which runs undulating along the back of a terraced field before droping, twisting and turning steeply, into the village of Atalbeiter. Passing through the village, drop down some concrete steps, to the left as you leave Atalbeiter, on to another stretch of technical track. This will bring you back onto the road by the fountain in Ferreirola.
