Flights, Car Hire and Maps

Flights and Car Hire
Many carriers (including some low-cost airlines such as EasyJet, as well as Globespan and AirScotland north of the border) fly to Malaga and Almeria, both of which are about two and a half hours drive from the house. In addition the airport at Granada, which is just one hour away, has recently opened up to international air traffic - Monarch now flies direct from Gatwick and Ryan Air flies direct from Stanstead and Liverpool - both airlines offer low-cost flights.

Car hire is essential if you are to enjoy the region fully. There are many car hire companies based in and around the airport - advice and information on discounted hire is available on request. We provide detailed directions from each of the airports serving the region and can also offer advice for travellers driving from different parts of Spain.
That said, it is possible to avoid hiring a car and take advantage of the public transport system - the city bus runs from Malaga to Granada, and from Granada you can pick up the local service that serves the Alpujarras - some of our guests have taken this option, not wishing to drive on what is essentially a walking holiday for them. Try www.alpujarra-rural.com/english/Nevada.html which offers local information about buses from Granada to the white villages or the tourist information sites for Granada and/or the Sierra Nevada/Alpujarras - search engines like Google should also help you access up to date information. Please note that this option means a lot of walking from place to place in and around La Taha as the local bus service is infrequent, often only running a couple of times a day between the villages and towns
