Walking in the Alpujarras
Mecinilla-Ferreirola-Fondales loop (Approx. 1 hour) Turn right on leaving the house and then take a left onto the Fondales track after walking about 10m. 200m on, this track crosses the Mecina-Fondales road - dog leg right 5m, then left, before continuing on the track for a further 150m and entering the top of the village. Drop down through the village, keeping left, until you reach the sign posted track to Ferreirola. Follow the track on to Ferreirola. As you emerge into the village take a right then a left and walk up through the village (past a small bar which opens in the high season) into the square where you will see the fountain and washhouse. Turn left here, past the church and out of the village. Follow the road round through Mecina taking a left, passing the village church and ending back at the bar, El Aljibe, in Mecinilla. Alternatively, do the route in reverse by turning left on leaving the house, following the street upwards to the fountain and turning right and then left onto the tarmac road by the El Alijbe bar. At the hotel a little further up the road take the right hand turn toward Ferreirola. As you enter the village square you will see the fountain on the left, directly opposite this a path leads down through the village which, turning right and walking down past the bar, takes you onto the track to Fondales (signposted). This track follows the lower contours of the mountain side, skirting small holdings for the last 200m before entering Fondales. Travel up through the village to join the road which meanders upward to the El Alijbe bar.
