| Walk 3 Mecinilla-Fondales-Ferreirola-Busquistar (Approx. 1-1.5 hours) Turn right on leaving the house and then take a left onto the Fondales track after walking about 10m. 200m on, this track crosses the Mecina-Fondales road - dog leg right 5m, then left, before continuing on the track for a further 150m and entering the top of the village. Drop down through the village, keeping left, until you reach the sign posted track to Ferreirola. Follow the track on to Ferreirola. As you emerge into the village take a right then a left and walk up through the village (past a small bar which opens in the high season) into the square where you will see the fountain and washhouse. Turn right here and follow the path out of the village - on the edge of the village you will see a signpost for Busquistar. Follow this path, which is signposted throughout with red and white stripe signs (sometimes painted onto the rocks), until it begins to climb - take care here to climb upwards and avoid the temptation to follow the fork downwards (signposted with an arrow and el rio on the rocks) where you will end up in the bottom of the river valley. The path bends leftwards and as you turn the corner you will see the terraced fields of Busquistar ahead and the village itself. Keep to the path and follow it - it forks a few hundred metres on and you need to take the right fork and climb steeply uphill through the village. You need to be heading for the main square where there is a fountain, post office and a very nice small bar, Bar Vargas, with a small terrace from which you can look out along the route you have just walked and onto the mountains. The owner does great tapas and there is a football table if you still have energy to spare! |
