| Walk 5 Mecina Fondales-Pitres-Portugos-Busquistar-Ferreirola(Approx. 4 hours) Turn left on leaving the house, follow the street upwards to the fountain and turn right and then left onto the tarmac road by El Aljibe. Follow the road upwards out of the village and into Mecina, turning left up the mountain side - here you can follow the road up to the top (3 km) where it joins the main road (GR421) or take the goat track 400m up, signposted by the small red square (see walk 2) either way, at the top, turn right toward Pitres. Stay on this road for a further 8 km passing through the lower reaches of Pitres and Portugos and onto Busquistar. This is road walking but there are excellent views and it is possible to stop enroute in one of the villages for a cool glass of something! Approximately 1 km before you reach Busquistar you will come across a dirt and gravel jeep track on your right hand side (sign posted with yellow and white markings). This is a wide but steep track with a loose surface and sharp bends which drops down the mountain side for 1000m. Approximately 100m from the bottom of this track it is crossed, on a bend, by the Busquistar-Ferreirola track. Turn right onto this track (sign posted as above). Although initially quite wide this track quickly narrows, becoming rocky as it traverses the mountain for 3 km before decending through woods for the last km into Ferreirola. On reaching Ferreirola you can either take the track to Fondales and then the road back up to Mecinilla, or stick to the Mecina-Ferreirola road (again, see walk 1) |
