Montefegatesi
The Place
Montefegatesi is a mediaeval hilltop village in the Appenine Mountains, situated at 2763 feet above sea level. The village offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy the flora and fauna of this beautiful region.
In the small piazza there is a shop providing all the basics including fresh fruit and veg plus two bars (one serves homemade pizza) and a post office.
Crowning the village is a small park in which stands a memorial to Dante. Dante is reputed to have spent time here during his exile from Florence in the 14th Century. The chaos of nature in all its grandeur, seen from here, is said to have so outraged Dante’s sense of order that he was inspired to write The Inferno section of his Divine Comedy.
Montefegatesi is located 14 km by road (30 minutes) above the beautiful, historic spa town of Bagni di Lucca, which lies on the banks of the pretty river Lima. Bagni di Lucca has a market, shops, restaurants and supermarkets. It also has an excellent outdoor swimming pool and health spa where a range of treatments are available.
