Free
live music every month
Since October, 'Collyweston Unplugged' has become a regular feature on the
East Midlands live music scene. Held on the last Friday of every month, it
features a wide variety of musicians from around the region. There are
nofees, no amps, no microphones . but there are free chips during the break!
The Collyweston Slater is on the A43, between Stamford and the Duddington
roundabout. The session is held in the no-smoking restaurant, so you won't
go home smelling like somebody's ash tray. Admission is free, and things
usually start around 8.30pm.
You can order a meal beforehand (contact Darren on 01780 444288) and B&B
accommodation is available if you need it. Musicians and audiences are
equally welcome.
The next session is on Friday 28th January. I will be your host - and I look
forward to seeing you there!
Ceilidh band plays for charity
The fabulous Rusty Relics are playing at Stamford Arts Centre, to raise
money for Cancer Research UK. I've seen them play, and they are highly
entertaining, brilliant musicians, and they will have us all up dancing like
mad things. I may also do a bit of singing..
Tickets are £7.50 (concs. £5) and you can get them from the Arts Centre box
office or from me at fifix@btopenworld.com and 07989 306389. If you order
from me, all the money goes to the charity; otherwise, the Arts Centre takes
an 8% commission. But please, do whatever is most convenient.
I am happy to post tickets to you, or leave them at the box office for
collection. Cheques should be made payable to Bob Chapman, as he's liaising
with the charity. Send to Rusty Relics, PO Box 186. Easton-on-the-Hill,
Stamford PE9 3WA
I also have posters at size A5, A4 and A3 if you would like to put some up
for us.
So, you want to write a book?
Jo Parfitt's excellent tips book, explaining how to get your idea into
print, is available FREE as an e-book. Just email Jo at jo@summertimepublishing.com
and ask for So, You Want To Write A Book? She will also sign you up for her
free monthly e-zine, the Monthly Inspirer.
If you'd rather have a 'proper' book, send a cheque for £3.75 (that's £2.99
+ p&p) to Summertime Publishing UK, PO Box 186, Easton-on-the-Hill, Stamford
PE9 3WA and I'll pop one in the post to you.
So, what if your book's already written?
Perhaps you already have a manuscript but are not sure what to do next. Or,
you have an idea for a book but are wondering how to develop it to interest
a publisher. Maybe you're not sure whether your book has already been
published by someone else.
The simplest, cheapest way to proceed is to request a free Manuscript
Appraisal form.
It leads you through the sort of questions any publisher will ask, before
deciding whether to take you on as an author. You complete it in your own
time, and this stage costs nothing other than your time.
When you are ready to move on, you send it back to us at Summertime
Publishing with your manuscript (preferably in electronic format as a Word
document!) and we will quote you a price for assessing it and writing a full
report. Usually this works out at between £100 and £250; a sound investment
which will save you a great deal of money and wasted time later.
To request a copy of the form today, email appraisal@fifix.com and I will
send it straight over to you. There is no commitment to take it further if
you decide to drop the idea or try another route to publication. We just
want you to be happy!
Marketing your business
Lots of us are sole traders or small businesses, and the thought of tackling
'Marketing' can be daunting. Especially when you already have customers
queuing for your attention! Do you really need to bother?
Linda Crumlin is a highly
qualified marketer who runs her own very successful business from her home
in Barrowden, Rutland. A no-nonsense Scot, she knows the value of a sensible,
manageable, marketing plan. It need not be expensive, or time consuming. But
it can pay you back handsomely.
See Linda at Winning Connections for Women (yes, we do allow men to attend,
as long as they behave!) on Tuesday 1st February at 7.30pm in the Castle
Hill Language School, opposite the bus station in Stamford.
Admission is £5, or £2.50 if it's your first visit. Tea and coffee or a
glass of wine are available, and there is time for networking before and
after the talk.
You do need to arrive promptly though, as the caretaker locks us in after
7.40pm! If you are late, call me on 07989 306389 or Jacqui Tillyard on 07939
398624 and we'll run downstairs and let you in.
